Hi everyone!

some might say this belongs under the "Exhaust" category, but i rather think it belongs here since the red exhaust probably (in my mind) correlates to the "untunable" EFI. I made a post in another thread, it was 18 years old so i'm making my own even if I already have more knowledge about the issue now, than when i originally posted.

FE 450 2009:

I changed my tailpipe from OEM to the akrapovic, and also installed a hiflow air filter, and suddenly the exhaust started to glow. I was going for a 60km ride, and i could see it the whole way leaning over...

Now, I had some questions originally, like why isn't the lambda sensing a lean mixture and adding fuel etc, but i now know the lambda is just for show, it isn't used other than when the bike was new to clear the emission requirements. So how do we add fuel in these machines? The ecu is locked?

So my new questions would probably be:

Can we somehow change the injector for a slight bigger one to accommodate the free flowing exhausts and high flow filters?
Would a fuel pressure regulator work to add a little bit of pressure and thereby some fuel?

I changed back to the original filter and put really thick chain oil in it, also put the aluminium insert in the mouth of the muffler (just a very slight restriction), and now the red exhaust is not a problem, it's at an acceptable level at idle and i almost can't see it when riding at night, but power is down since the air is not getting in nor out as easily.

if there is a way to trick the bike to drink a few drops more per boom, please share the info =)

cheers

Hey,

the open map eliminates the Lambda sensor altogether. I had that reconfirmed just a couple weeks ago from former dealers. The bike runs so rich that just a swap of the silencers and the air filter doesn't affect the AFR.
You could use a Vortex ECU piggyback for example.

Maybe check for a clogged fuel filter, injector and/or the inline fuel filter (if you have one). Did you check the TPS values at idle?

Kind regrads
Chris

P.S. maybe also search on the facebook Husaberg forums. The people there are more active

Thanks,

I will check everything fuel related soon, I think power might be down, but I don't know. Only 450 comparison i have is a crf 450... I haven't checked TPS values, what are the typical values and how to check with a dmm? Thanks regards

Check the workshop manual for the exact values. I think it was around 0,62-0,64 V but no too certain. You can use a Multimeter to measure the voltage
