Currently rebuilding '02 FE501E engine. Need to know piston to cylinder wall clearance. Anybody have this info?

i have it down as .0015" per inch of bore and it's 4 inches exactly so it'll be .006" or 6 thou as we'd say it. measure at the skirt of the thrust faces and with the piston flat and square to the bore.

that figure was for air cooled enmgines and you could perhaps go even closer. lineweaver will know.

that's a lot less than my duke from 1980 dale!

81mm piston (just over 3") just .006". oh well! but 3 times as much?

Hi,

I was searching for an older post where Dale L. has replied something I can
use on my problem. But, sorry, I don´t find the topic where it was discussed.

I have also rebuild my 501 engine, model 2002. I changed all the bearings and took the complete crankshaft from mine reserve 2001 engine, because
it felt a bit better.
But now, I have got strange noises, I never heard before at my engine.
I know this sound, it´s nearly the same like a friend of mine got at his 03.
It´s a loud rustling sound which comes from the clutch side. But only when engine is hot.
I know, it could have to do with the nut on the cam driving shaft. Maybe I have interchanged the 2 nuts which hold the crankshaft wheels.
Could it be that the wheel is getting loose, when engine is hot, or what causes this sound? Can anybody explain that, what happens there?
The other idea is that I have a camchain issue again. Maybe the chain is worn and scratches the crankcase, but that wouldn´t explain that ít only happens at the warm engine.

best regards
