rear spring

Hi all,

I have been using the STD spring (88/250) on my SM which is rated for a rider fully equipped being 70-80kg, I am closer to 100kg fully equipped so have had the spring preloaded probably more than it should be to get my ride heights right.

I have the opportunity to try a 92.5n/240, I am presuming this is the next spring up and more suited to my weight? but it is 10mm shorter so possibly not ideal either.

Would this spring be better?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I would much rather have a WDS but have not seen one for sale for years now

Any thoughts on whether a 10mm shorter spring would matter?

suspension naive, but would't maximum compression length be the arbiter? and potentially extension? and if those are ok any difference would be handled by preload adjustment?

as long as there is enough thread to get the preload you want it doesn't make any difference about the length although a shorter spring could be more linear than a longer spring with the same coil spacing due to there being more wire and potentially difference in the stiffness along its length

the way the end coils touch as its compressed make a bit of difference too

I have a ktm 450 SX shock that i reckon the lower berg clevis will fit on ... might try that soon.

What they said. Coil binding is unlikely, especially on I presume, a shorter travel SM setup.

If you can't get the preload, you can always knock up a spacer. Delrin is good and easy to turn up.

Never heard of a 240mm spring.

I am 100k with gear and had (sold it) a 260mm 98kg spring on my FE shock. It was revalved for my weight for chitty dirt roads, trails, and bad tarmac on 17's..
The preload ring was just hand tight, was only a couple mm of preload, and the sag was right for SM.

I then later put it on my FS shock and needed a helper to get the retaining ring onit while I pushed the spring down.
It worked just as well if not better on the FS shock. The FE shock was incredibly slow to rebound and later, the rebound adjuster broke.

Same deal on the FS shock, hand tight preload.

FWIW, I have 5,0 springs upfront and a revalve.
