Hi guys. Can anyone tell me what strength rear spring I should have on my 2004 FE450? My current spring looks very tired and feels really too soft! When I'm riding it almost feels the bike is too small!! A new spring would look a bit nicer too! :)

Ben

PS, with all my gear on I weigh 14 stone and ride enduro.

just find out what spring you need for the same year ktm and you'll
be there.

14 stone to the pound =196£'s=89 kilos I think

I've got the spring rates in my manual. I have a 88-250 on my bike but it's a fs650

I'll try to remember to look it up fr you

Here you are, from a 2005 owners manual. I'd scrub your spring up and check the number on it prolly the second or third coil from the top is where the # is. You can measure your spring in the bike after you back the preload ring off. If it is way off yea, prolly worn out. Mine is a 88-250 I think 88 keys and 250 mm.

Sag check tip- cut out the middleman! Not having someone competent to measure, I did this.

I set up my iPhone video camera on a ladder right next to the bike.

I taped a yardstick on top of the axlenut on the chain side. Set it up to go behind the side plastic. More tape to keep it in the "v"

Then taped a pencil to the side plastic to act as a pointer. I taped to the yardstick a 12" steel rule that read 16 th's

Started the camera with the bike off the stand, and lift bike untill back wheel is off ground, and pause.

Set down bike and repeat. Then push rear down and let settle, pause. Then lift rear up a little and let settle, pause

Average these measurements for static sag.

Sit on bike in your normal riding position, pause. Bouncy up and down and let settle to see if it's the same.

Watch your video with pen and paper and do math. Adjust preload, repeat until right. Really easy and accurate also.
