service! rebuild that sucker. contrary to popular belief shocks don't last forever and appreciate regular service 8)

SMS, Where are you located ? There is a really good guy in Gunnison, CO WR1 Suspension, Chris White , sorry his phone number is in my other truck. He uses a patented valving system for *********** shocks and forks. Very reasonably priced, and an all round nice guy.

So, just replaced my swing arm bearings - wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Anyway went out today and when I came back I heard a clunking noise every time I pushed down or lifted the tail. Cant see anything touching or snagging after the swing arm re build but the rear shock does appear to be leaking. Wondered if this could make the clunking noise. Found this thread so guess that answers that..good ol UHE again.

So, if that is the case and a re-build or re-seal is needed - is that something a nob like me could easily undertake. (recently suceeded in fork seals replacement / triple clamp swop over to KTM / as well as very rotten swing arm bearing replacement - dont have any special tools though, and if so what needs doing...ta

problem with shocks is that unlike forks they tend to be pressurized with things like nitrogen so when dismantling and rebuilding them you've either got to have the right exquipment or a hole in the roof of your shed and no more shock.

before sending it off give the shock a good wipe down so its nice and clean then you can see if more oil appears and make sure it wasnt just wd40 or something and check all the bolts are tight and there is no play in either the top or bottom mounts, play in these can cause a clonking.

Cheers guys,

When I stripped the swing arm I cleaned everything down with petrol - including the shock. As it still seems to work OK I think i'll dry it off as you note Cy and see what happens this weekend (MX practice track).

Taffy - me & Tom are doing Chatteris Buttercup farm this Sunday - usually a race track only but being opened up for one day only. Perhaps you can take a look there.

I'll also get a chance to chat with you about why I can't make this Mays Force ride.

catch you later.

Spent yesterday afternoon with Taffy helping ( no actually watching - annoying him) as he re-built the rear shock. Bloody hell they're complicated inside.

He got his own back when bleeding a bit of fluid out of the shock, the piston stuck as it was being pushed ..when it released suddenly stupid me was standing in front of it & got soaked in oil....doh...so stood well back when it was re-gassed.

Anyway - great job Taff - cheers.

did you get out on it in the end James or was all that alcohol I sacrificed in vein?

I am a good shot though aren't I!

Taffy
