Rear Mounted Fuel Bottles

I thought I would post a couple of pictures of my newly installed "get out of trouble" fuel pods on my 570. I figure the fuel these bottles hold should give me about 15-20 miles extra fuel for those situations where the ride is a little longer. I didn't want to install the subframe fuel tank (although do like the idea of it) and wanted to do something cheap to give me a little bit extra fuel. The parts used in the pictures include: MSR Fuel Bottle, Fire Extinguisher Holders, Two Stainless Mounting Plates (all powdercoated blue and yellow).

I really like that set up. I already have the MSR bottles but I have been carrying them in my back pack. The brackets are easy to get as well but what did you use for that mounting plate? I do not have access to machining anything for myself so I try to buy thing that can easily be altered if necessary.

Great idea!

The mounting plate on back is 1/4 inch stainless steel. I also had a much smaller mounting plate underneath for stability. I have posted a pic of that here for you as well. It is extremely stable.

What is the white sleeve on the underside brace? This really looks like a great idea for those of us that don't want to spend $400 for an extra gallon. Could you give a little detail about measurements on the plates and so forth? I know these may be elementary questions but I am not very good at figuring these things out so anytime I can steal someone else's idea it is good for me!

Thanks for your great idea!

looks good.

I think I would have used 1/8" aluminum though, 1/4" SS is a tad heavy.

Or nylon board, light, easy to work, strong and flexible. Available as a cutting board in various colours at your local supermarket.

don't want to rain on your parade but I predict problems with the plastic fasteners. Even without any added weight but just mud sticking under the fender the 4 plastic fasteners come loose. They nedd constant attention.
Swinging your leg over will require ballet lessons.

In the early years I used an empty 1.5 liter P.E.T. waterbottle in my rucksack. € 0,14 for the bottle including the water.

:laughing5: I was thinking the same thing. Hard enough getting the leg over the Pusaberg now without anything on the back.

I kept my mates entertained all of our adventure weekend when I threw my soft saddle bags, sleeping bag and BIG woolly sheepskin on the Husatourer, then had to pull all sorts of ballet, yoga and gymnastic manuvors to try and climb on board with full leathers and mx boots on. Well worth the effort (and broken brake lever from finally overbalancing once) for a wicked way out weekend.
Incidently..... No matter how comfy it looks, a piece of 4x2 (berg seat) even with a big whoolly is still a piece of 4xarse aching 2.
