Rear Brake pad removal

Ok, stupid question. Any trick to getting the pin out that holds the rear brake pads in place (2000 FE501) I pulled the little keeper out of the pin & the pin spins, but won't slide out easily. I thought I would ask before I get out the vise grips and hammers. Thanks Dudes !

They have an expanding spring bush keeper (technical gibberish) and just need to be punched out, from outside the bike towards the wheel. Chances are you'll need a new pin too, as they flog out where they contact the pad backing plate. Assemble with a light application of high temp antisieze or wheel bearing grease. Pull the caliper and clean and lube the sliding pins too.

That's what I need to do too. I don't use that back brake very much but there gone none the less.

I need a new shifter pedle too. Worn through.

I appreciate the help, the manual just was not real clear about removing that pin, thought it better to get some advice before going into attack mode with the hammer. I also read your linked document very well written and again very helpful. Good on Ya Mate !!

I had a full brake fail today. The front had pushed out all the way and was rock solid, and the back took quite a few pumps . It was realy slick mud so they could have been locked up but still somethings up. It was ice and mud cold and windy.

So did it ice up on me ?

It realy pushed the leaver out a lot and hard.

Is that where the back brake went ?

I'll bleed the system and get new pads, but what was that ? Water in the lines ? Air?

I went down like 4 times in a row because they locked up and it was on the worst section I had, steep down hill black thick mud water running frozen ruts.
