Re-Fitting Forks???

Hi everyone,
My 2000 FC600 has earlier 50mm conventional WP forks and I recently removed them to renew the seals.
Is there any specific order I should follow when re-fitting them to ensure everything is running straight & true?
Pretty basic question I know, but I'm not the world's greatest mechanic and a 30min job usually ends up taking me a couple of hours!
Cheers,
Ross

Pretty straightrorward Bolt them in and ride. I'd recommend a torque wrench for the triple clamps. 17nm from memory, but its not so critical with conventional forks. Get the tops of the forks at equal height in the top clamp. I use 8 mm on my 501 with Extremes. Make sure that the forks are parallel. For for aft you can get a reasonable idea sighting sideways. I like to get a couple of straightedges and attach them with tape to the foks top and bottom and sight them from above to get this spot on. Then, from another post, with the wheel on gently bounce the handlebars. You should get a smooth friction free response from the forks. If not, loosen the right hand fork axle clamp only and get someone to tap the underside of the fork with a soft hammer while you bounce and feel. The fork leg can move a couple of mm along the axle and if not centred properly will cause binding. You can even just pull it bit either way to confirm.

Bolt up brake caliper. I like to have anti seize on all threads and grease on the axle too.

Cheers,
Re-fitted the forks this evening in less than 30min and took the bike out a quick spin.
Everything seems to be in working order!
Thanks again,
Ross
