I picked up a little pin hole leak in my radiator last year. is there any easy do it yourself repair for this or do I have to bring it in to a shop? I also need some better radiator guards for this thing. Bike is old enough where I dont think I can buy any, thought about trying to make a set, anybody have any ideas?

hi, concerning the leak,
just empty the radiator then use a thin sand paper to remove the plack paint around the leak, let it dry and after apply some high temp gasket silicone.

after it dries out completely it is ready for use. it will never leak again from this hole!

old days my 2 stroke suzuki enduro had a hole in the the cylinder due to bad material and just a bit of silicone cured the leak completely

The hole is so small it is tough to find. My fear is doing more damage than good in a solder repair. Any ideas on some homemade guards?

Not sure its suitable but there is a product which seals small holes in radiators of cars which you add to the cooling system and as the coolant leaks out, this 'gunk' plugs the hole from the inside. Its just another option. If you did go down this route i'd take into account the fact that a general car engine contains a good few litres of coolant and the husa's contain approximately 1 litre.

Solder it.
If your not confident enough to do it then get someone to do it.
Should only cost a couple of bucks.

Is soldering aluminium all that straightforward? Have seen the solder but never actually tried using it.

very straightforward, rub down to the metal dink a dent, solder it - jobs a good 'hn!

I fitted some Yam WR250 guards from B&B to my 98 501. Bit of fiddling and an extra rubber mount on the LHS but straightforward and work great. Pics in my gallery.
