can the rad fan kit be fitted to bikes before 2006 that have the old tank on?

regards

No the stock one from husaberg can not, there is not enough space between the rad & tank. You would have to put on a 2006 tank and rad shrouds on or a large Boss tank. The kick start will be too long for these tanks It would have to be cut shorter or replaced with a 2006 or newer Also the rads do not have the fitting for the termostat You would have to drill a hole in the rad and tig weld a fitting on or get a 2006 or newer rad

Lots have put the OEM fan kits on the 04-05s,they fit on the LH side(back) of the rad and just operate it with a manual switch as reqd.

Are you sure ???

Cooling fan kit is for 06-08 It will not fit between rad & tank on older bikes

Love to see a picture of it done

People have put other types of fans on but not OEM one

Seems the the fan kit would need to be pretty skinny.

I have a 2005 FE 450, and on the right side there is a 20mm gap between the rad and the tank. All standard parts. On the left side there is possibly more room, but you would have to move the thermostat housing. If anyone some fairly exact dimensions for the fan in the OEM kit, I will see if I can find a gap. I would like to get one if I can make it fit.

Or I could just ride faster all the time. :D (And crash more in the tight stuff...)

i would like to put a fan on my berg when it is back on the road, i have read about people putting large computer cooling fans on the back of the rad. I am not sure, for one water ingress, would be just my luck for the fan to short the stator out or something to that effect. If anybody has any ideas !

Computer fans will work. I had a set for about 2 years that worked well. I was just cautious when washing the bike not to spray directly into the fans.
I have some pictures in my gallery.

That is the problem for me. They won't like river crossings then. But I am tempted to just do that and see how long they will last, as computer fans (or other low voltage fans) can be smaller. What I like about the OEM one is the grunt. Lots of watts moves lots of air. Hard to find elsewhere.

I can see a few unanswered questions in relation to fan kits for bikes pre '06.

Did anyone manage to rig-up a reliable solution, using the OEM kit, computer fans, or similar? I'm desperate to get something sorted for my '03 FE501.

I will have after this weekend, I need to stop boiling the big girl boiling when I get into the real snotty stuff. I have a 120mm fan it is 25mm wide and IP55 rated, dust and splash protection should be able to hose it down.
I got some Force radiator gaurds the other day and noticed that they have enough clearance to put a fan between the front of the rad and the gaurds, I know its not ideal being at the front but it looks like it will work well, and the 120mm fan puts out over double the air of 80mm fan.
Hopefully I will get to it tomorrow and put some photos up.

Ive bought a fan off ebay, think it was off a '09 450, but one way or another im gonna make it fit onto my 650. I reckon theres just enough room on the left hand side. Just gonna toggle switch for now, if it does manage to fit i'll get a tappin in the rad for the stat, that would be luxury!

I'll take some pics of the fan in place

Thanks guys... keep us posted of progress!

I guess I'll be taking the plunge myself shortly, but will opt for the toggle switch option as it should be a lot less hassle to rig-up.
