Hi there, I'm new to the forum and thought I'd say hello! I really wish it had been here a few years ago when I was roadracing a husaberg. There is so much knowledge here, back then it was a lonely road to ride as everyone else was on yamahas and rotaxes. Anyway, since then I got sidetracked a bit by cars but kept the husaberg in the garage nice and warm and dry........

So, having been out of the road race scene for a few years, I'm hoping you guys can help - Sorry if this is turning into a long post - The motor I used and still have is a pre pump 600. It has higher c/r than normal, and has a "b" cam (at least this is how the UK importer of the time described it). It also runs a 41.8mm overbored Amal concentric (dont laugh its a doddle to tune!) a tuned length exhaust and mildly ported head. It also has what I was told was a Folan primary drive which helped get the gearing tall enough for the fast circuits I raced on (eg Snetterton and Donnington). On the rolling road it made 63bhp at 8000rpm. With bits removed like the kickstart mech' IIRC the engine weighed in at around 60lbs which made for a light old bike. At all times it was a right Bit$ch to start even using rollers, but the motor was sweet and during the only full season I did with it I only had one blown head gasket, and then they introduced a weight limit (now gone) and that was that.

Since then one or two others have tried to use the husaberg for supermono but for one reason or another have given up. Prior ro embarking on another race project I'd be interested if any of you have any idea why they've failed. I still think the hussy in a supermono or minimono chassis could be a real race winner.

If you got this far I thank you for reading, and whoever got my account working on this forum thanks too!

Hi daxdriver.
Welcome here!!
They’ve failed simply because they did not use the motor you have but the troublesome (new) design.
All the ones I now have had constant main bearing failures!

Bob

knew you were a brit after one sentance!

i come from Ely and you can call me in the evening on 01353 723883. i'm interested in your project. simon has a lot of knowledge about huseys and of course from the states we have nr lineaweaver!

you can tune any vehicle right up but if the cases don't hold then you're knackered as you'll know already. Ian cunnington and gary cottrell are mates of mine (ok well ian is) and they have to keep the revs down. you might as well have a smaller engine and thrash it i think!

JBS do a big bore/stroker 750 kit for sidecar MX but they don't have the constant RPM do they!

if you go into the gallery there is a husey in a RS250 chassis and CF everywhere. there is also a british husey RR there as well!

Hi missfire, thanks for the welcome. The main bearing thing does seem to be a problem. Is this because of the use of a balancer, weak bearings or a preparation issue? My 600 vibrated a bit but it was a race engine and it didn't matter to me one jot.

Hi Taffy,
knew you were a brit after one sentance!
:)

I used to race against Ian and Gary IIRC. Certainly Gary many times. Called denver garage the other week but he's not there anymore and roger does the supermono stuff now I believe. Wonder what gary is up to these days...

Yeah - I saw the 750 JBS kit too but I suppose unproven in roadracing, and the bikes in the gallery look neat but I think the NWS one lung husaberg effort had the main bearing problems so they gave up with it and changed motors. I'll give you a bell tonight.

Anyone know if the Folan primary drives are still available - mine is shagged?

cheers

after 7pm bob.

the problem (for the record here) is that a roller bearing must sit absolutely square across the two crankcase halves so every dimension must be spot on. my ducati needed the barrel seats (half on each case) machining square, there was always a .003-.004" lip to tip the barrel over. this is the problem.

you can get 650 OEM postons and barrels 10 a penny on ebay. also cams come up and we now have a lot of knowledge of the Keihin FCR carb.

they only go to 40mm but FI is the way it's going isn't it?

gary is now creating aircraft chassis in florida. his welding is that good he got drawn into the aero industry...

ian does forgotten era on a 350TZ-which is about his speed!
