Racing at Idle!

Can anybody help with a small problem, I have a 2010 FE390, and it has started to race at idle then after a few second the idle speed drops to what i would expect, blipping the throttle doesnt really seem to make a difference and when riding it is starting to pull you into corners faster than i want. The bike is std apart from an akroprovic silencer and has about 100hrs on it now. Thanks

i really dont know anything about these new fi bikes, i am only responding because nobody else has
does it have a throttle position sensor of some kind or does it still have a throttle cable? if has cable could it be sticking? or throttle slide or blade sticking? possibly throttle position sensor irratic operation or some type of idle control motor irratic operation? possibly a leak in the intake boot before throttle body and engine?

good luck

So I assume you've check the idle speed adjuster to make sure it's not pulled out (fast-idle) or turned all the way in one direction? What you are describing sounds like how my bike was delivered, with the idle turned up way too high, so it wouldn't actually idle correctly, it would surge.

The idle speed adjuster is actually a combo choke/idle speed adjuster in one and it is located on the left side of the bike kind of up under the tank a little bit above the engine (it is on the side of the throttle body), it is a round black knob and I had to look for it the first time to find but after pulling it a couple of times for cold weather starts it is easy to find know without looking. If you pull it acts as a choke for easier cold weather starts and if you turn the knob it raises and lowers the idle speed, turning it out (counter clockwise) raises the idle and of course turning the opposite direction lowers the idle. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input guys, i have already tried the idle screw but all this does it make the tick over too low when the revs eventually die down. Although the ettect is just like putting a choke on for a few seconds, after 5 seconds or so it will eventually drop to a normal tick over. It hasnt always done this and has been running fine for months previous to this. :?

Have you checked the clamps on the manifold/throttle body and throttle body/air boot? This sounds kind of like there may be an air leak causing the motor to run too lean. The other thing you will want to check is the throttle cable free-play. If the cable is too tight or is binding up someplace it will not ide down properly either.
