Is there such a modification for us?

I really struggle to get to fully open without an extra grab, or moving my grip further forward in the first place.

Road racers use a quick action throttle, is there one I can fit to my Berg?

Thanks

Geoff

dale once made the comment that the design of the throttle pull for the keihin etc was for the road racers/road boys. you may want to look into a different 'cam' on the carb-try allens on 01949 836733.

the other thing i would say is that you are probably riding with your elbows too low and your wrists should be further over/around the bars. i did this a lot when i first started off-road.

try to ride elbows high!

Geof,

You have 2 options providing you only have a single throttle cable at the mo.:

Call Venhill engineering: Venhill website who make a reversable quick action throttle - on quick action it is very quick - and progressive action throttle pull. You may also have to order new cables.

In addition Gary Grover sells a "more" quick action throttle that isn't quite as quick action as the Venhill version - call him on 01488 670400

The road racer quick action throttles are seriously expensive.

Hope this helps,
Simon

thanks Guys,

I'm trying to ride "elbows high" and indeed I suffer the same problem on my sports bike - must try harder!

And I will look into all those links, in case I can't teach myslelf.

Thanks again

In 2002, I made a prototype throttle for my 2001 KTM 250SX. This was a 50 degrees turn for the 38mm carb. This was the best handling performance change. The large gap between the grip and body was to avoid blisters on my thumb.

What year model? In the early Domino twistgrips you could flip the cable drum inside to give either fast or progressive throttle response. Mine was on fast & I changed it to progressive.

really, it a 2003 fe501. having said that with the "elbows" high tip, I'm getting more rapid/full throttle control. I'll pull the grip apart and see if I can change anything - thanks

I think they changed the twistgrip in '99 or '00. Mine has a slide for the cable to go round the corner where your's has a pulley. The parts manual for the '03 does not show its insides - it only shows the whole twistgrip as a single part. All I can suggest is pulling it to bits to see if the cable drum is like the older ones.

Perhaps someone else knows how the '03 twistgrip is inside for sure?

The OEM 03 twistgrip does not swap to a quick action throttle.

if you really want a quicker action buy the one from Venhill. It's 20 quid fer fooks sake, hardly brakes the bank and does exactly what it says on the tin

Take it from someone who has already been there done that and got a couple of old threadbare t-shirts

Or you could always ride round looking like you're impersonating a chicken with your elbows flapping around in the air
