the foam mesh type filter that is located in the breather above the rocker cover, does it sit loose in the hose or do you push it in firmly? is it best to put a light smear of sealant on both the rocker cover and the head face or just on the one surface ? is it ok to spray crc onto the stator ?

the sponge will be a loose fit in the breather.

i put sealent on just one cover as anything else will squidge out and fall in the eengine.

dunno what CRC is but i smear mine in vaseline. not technically the best but i#m still on my original stator so it can't be that bad!

CRC seems to work. Thin oil is ok also.

don't forget that WD40 is NOT an oil based sustance. it does not lubricate and is menat to evaporate. so, you know, ask yourself "what have i actually done?".

Yes, I know but there are some who use it. WD-40 makes the oil layer thinner and metal can get rusty. On the other hand, WD-40 should exorcize the water. :)

Taffy, do you use special Vaseline? I have tried different lubricating substances but they melt and smear around.

When my stator broke I examined it and found that the lining was loose. I don't know if that had caused the failure but if so, it's hard to prevent a failure whatever you do.

no, i just use it coz it leaves a film. it melts away like everything else but i don't want grease flying around and pooping everywhere.

it's not the best but it will a 'petroleum' film and that was all i was after.
