G'day fellas,
I have been riding my 02 KTM 640 Supermoto for the last four years with no complaints, but have decided to purchase a 05 FS 650e.
The dealers here in Oz are slashing about $3K of the 05 FS650e models. I have 34.000 klicks on my LC4 motor now and the motor has been bloody reliable. I do all the major servicing on the bike myself. The bike is fitted with a FCR carb and Staintune system and puts out just over 53 HP from the rear wheel. I was looking at buying a Husa a couple of years ago, but I was putting about 10.000 klicks plus a year on my LC4, so with the advice from some members on this site I put my dreams on hold.
I now have moved down to Tassie where there are more corners than straights, and the usage on my 02 LC4 has dropped down to around 3- 5000 klicks per year. My closest Husa dealer in Tassie is in the north of the state which is a 700 klick round trip for me. Working on the Husa won't be a problem as I have been doing it myself for the last 4 years on the LC4. My main commute to work every day is my 99 R1100GS, so I will be only using the Husa one or two days per week. I have downloaded the 05 FS650e manuals from this site and have given them a good working over.
My biggest problem is that I can't get a straight answer from dealers I ring about the mileage you can get from the motors. One dealers says that some are getting 60.000 Klicks before a rebuild, another says he is seeing about 25.000 klicks, and the blokes use them to commute to work. When I asked the local dealer about rebuilds and checking certain components at the 60 hour mark I was told " Not a problem, take the motor out of the bike and we can rebuild it in a few hours ". But no cost was given.
I need some serious advice fellas. The bike I will be purchasing will be under finance for 5 years. So if I average 3-5000 Klicks a year, what kind of upkeep will be needed on the motor each year, will I need a full rebuild each year and what kind of costs can I expect.
Sorry about the long winded post, but I just don't want to tarnish the Husa name if I am given ****** advice from sales reps.
Simon.
