Purchase Decision - help

I'm a new rider at the age of 43, riding trails in Western PA with buddies. In Fall 2010, I purchased a 2009 250 KTM XCF-W which is a very nice bike for me. Since it was 2 model years old, I got a pretty nice deal on it. I've put 15 hrs on the bike and am thinking about moving up to a 'Berg. Why? I think I can still get a good buck for my bike and Husaberg is offering some attractive deals on 2011 FE390's and even better deals on 2010 FX450's.

So I'm asking does it make sense to upgrade 1 model year (2009 to 2010), from a 250 to 450, carb to FI, KTM to 'Berg for under $2K. OR am I wasting money and getting too much bike (power and weight) for a novice rider?

If the answer is the Berg, then the 2010 FX450 is quite a bit less then the 2011 FE390. So, would I notice the performance difference between the 2 bikes?

Opinions are appreciated. Thank you.

If you like your 250 the 390 is the way to go. If your riding tight stuff the 390 has really got the nod over the FX, the FX being a more faster open terrain setup.

For tight single track I perfer my 09 GasGas250 over my 04 Hberg 450 I would take one for a test ride.before buying one

Can I easily/inexpensively tune the FX for woods?
The transmission gear ratios are not preferable for woods, nor the closed chamber forks. If you can get past those issues and dont want lights, you should be able to make it work.
I would say ride one before you buy one.
