In a sand whoop
hey guys, I need all the help I can get on info pumping up a 470, I am a desert racer and looking for parts and info on building a wicked "REAL HUSABERG". I am looking for aftermarket parts and I would like to change the maping if I can. What should I do ? I want my berg to hit as hard as it can and pull as hard as it can ( mid range ), desert racing stuff. I won two championships on my bergs and looking for the next one! come on guys what can I do to make the berg even faster ? AMA desert racer " Mark From Sparks " Please help

race cam
larger exhaust valves
keihin 41mm FCR carb with jetting kit
akro pipe
ported head
alloy cam sprockets and lightweight cam chain

where do you stop?
and then you have to build it to last......

and the suspension is shyte.
handling can be improved

trade it for a 650?

I have 2 650's, not as good in the tight stuff as the 470 !

I have a keihin 39 mm carb on it and eletrex stator, and a 07 exhaust ( stock ) a fan to cool it, and a 08 supension with mx valves on bottom, my race bike is very sweet and has tons of bling!! I am not sure how to post pic's but if you send me your E- Mail address I can show you what I have. I am having a berg pro in nevada USA building the motor. A race cam for sure, new valve springs, my head was a bit worped I am haveing it milled right now, will that be a problem ? Ported head ? larger exhaust valves ? how much will that help? what kind of cam will I need ? alloy sprockets and lightweight cam chain were are they ? I am working on the head right now and need stuff for that but not sure what kind of parts I need and were to get it. will 5 thousands of a inch removed off my head be a problem with valve pockets ?

and why do you suppose that is? too much power! it takes a light touch for a 650 in tight stuff.
you have to do the traditional stuff like taffy says. if you say you are a desert racer, you have to build it to develop its best usable power for the terrain you'll be riding. you probably know there is a big difference in the various racing series in nevada.

I race national hare and hound and so-cal D-37 after about 100 miles I would be happy riding a 250 on the last pro loop ( loop 3 or 4 ) my 650 flat gets it on at the start ( first 10 miles ) NO JOKE i'm one of the first group of riders. if you never rode a 650 you would not know what I am talking about. in the southern desert the 650 is the king. the thing is that not all the races in the AMA are in the south and the big 650 is just a big pig, My 470 hangs with the KTM 505 almost neck and neck. Alot better to ride then its brother the 650. That is why I want all the info I can get on how to pump that thing up so it can run like the 650 in the tight trees and rocky hills I realy like to know who will sell me the parts and clue me in on how to get my berg to rip a bit faster, like I said I need all the help I can get !

I tuned a FC470 for a 45 year old who won the south-west hill climb championship on it? is that any good?

probably not actually.... all point and squirt stuff that....no good!

the biggest problem you've got with the 470 is lubrication. second is its AGE which is against it. look Carl lewis is fast but would I use him today? noooooooo! he'd break down.

nothing revs like the 470 yet it was given no lubrication. that's why it makes an excellent MX bike.

I'd really question tuning it without looking at that. Sparks and I spent quite a bit of time looking at this recently but I don't have the time or money to develop this....there's no profit in it and I must make my living or afford nothing at all....

I'd look at an under piston oil squirt, I'd look at DVSK, look at a 41mm Keihin, I might even lower the compression, even put the later head on it? I'd defo go to ball mains. no need for roller on a 400 or 470.

oddly enough I'd spend $200 on a pair of fork legs off some more recent KTM and bolt them straight in. and $100 on the last-of-the-line rear shock. the FE shocks are longer than the FCs BTW so the forks would need dropping through.

regards

Taffy

I'm not looking to build a new motor I just want to buy aftermarket parts, (cams, springs, pistons, maybe some head work) I wanted to change the maping a bit like the coil you have in your store, just wanted to know how this type of products worked for other people in the past and how much of a improvement it was ? I wanted to know who is working on their 470's and where they bought their parts and how they liked them. Just looking for aftermarket parts for 01-03 bergs. I'm sure I am not the only guy who build a bad to the bone 470 X !! How did everyone else do it ?
