Hey guys,

At first you'll think this is waaaay off topic, but trust me, it's site related.

Has anyone got a spare pc lying around they're willing to sell and ship to me on the cheap? It doesn't need to be the latest technology, but at least a PIII or comparable. It's going to be running FreeBSD, so it doesn't need the resources a PC running Winblows would need.

My spare test box finally went off to pc heaven, and I have no good way to test mods to the site before making them live. My connection prohibits repetitive script and db uploads, and Apache on my windows box does me no good because a lot of it is dependent on the OS.

This is a crappy thing to say as well, but..... if you don't mind payments, that would rock quite awesomely :D Just got the truck out of the shop and the wife's getting ready to go see a man about a speeding ticket.

thanks,

re: generosity

Hi BB,

I'm actually working on it now. I won't go into details right now, because it's fairly embarrasing, but I will tell you that PowerCell and risky1 set me up as well or better than what the live site is running on. I'm still kind of unable to come up with the words to express my appreciation to everyone here. I'm really dumbfounded.

You all rock.

thanks,

Hi BB,

just goes to show how bloated windows applications are. freebsd, apache, php, cms of your choice and add-ons and viola... a sweet website that runs with less than half the resources of a windows based... set up

Personally I have found i prefer MAMBO.... have you tried it Json?

Don't let Jason fool you guys, he's starting up his own used computer business, ya know he kinda lives out in the sticks and if he can get a few used computers and sell them for a couple hundred bucks he can then buy a new visor for his helmet and a tire pump! :D

to: risky, unkle and jmumme :)

@ risky, yep, I've tried mambo, and even ran a few production sites on it, but after a couple really tough upgrades(ala early post-nuke), I switched them over to Nuke Platinum. I loved mambo's navigation and looks much better, but those early upgrades were horrendous. Also, what you say about Winblows is painfully true. Not too long ago, I had full RedHat installs on 486's and 64 megs of ram running as backup db servers. It did fine. The longest I'd gone without a reboot was 9 months. On my XP machine, I'm lucky to make a week.

@ Unkle, thanks a lot man, I was just about to try to score some zip drives and monitor filters. Now you've ruined it.... what am I going to tell my local clients at the Kwickie-Mart?

@ jmumme, I ride so slow, there would be no risk in injury to the server. It also wouldn't change my riding style any ;)

thanks,

Mambo 1.5.2 is super easy and upgrades are no longer an issue "Gallery" integrates seemlessly and there many great php based forum modules that integrate with ease also. I spent countless hours trying to perfect a nuke ite and just got very frustrated I switched from a "nuke" cms to mambo because of ease of use, template modification, and admin back end. best of all hardly any coding needed.

granted I am a novice website builder and have only done my families site but i think it is a great job for first timer. in fact any of you check it out if you want. www.minnicks.org user; temp password; temp

it has not been released to the family yet it is in "beta" test right now...

now back to the subject at hand Husaberg's

been there, done that....

hehe, I've already seen it sir :) Every time you clicked a link in the UHE site you had wrapped in your site, I got a refferer link to your site :) It looked darn good, and I like it a lot better than when you were running PN.

thanks,
