Hi. Im new here and new to burgers.
I have a tatty 2001 470. And want to get it on the road.
How do i register it?
Its battered everywhere. So guna start with strip an powder coat frame...
And finding lots of broken bits.
Any one kno what model mine could b?

Chech tne vin number on the headstock, or your ownership papers. There should be an FE,FX,FS, or FC in it. I'm bettering it's an FX ( cross country). There is lots of info in the owners docs for you. I sorted out a 2001 FX650 a couple winters ago. I still love the bike. 01's seem to need lots of upgrades but they are still worth the effort. Taffy will be a good source of parts/info. I find the bike easy and enjoyable to work on. Even more fun to ride!

Hi

Your bike is probably one FX or FC, because I don't think that ever existed one FE470.

I have rebuild one FX470-01 for a friend 2 years ago, and I've tried to make it one FE470, because the bike as it comes can be hard do drive for someone with less experience.

So I've changed the cam to a 01 (from the FE) and changed the piston to the one from the 650, witch is a flat one (the one in the 470 is a HC one). The 470 is basically one 650 piston with one 400 rod.

Still all that done the bike is very fast for off road and incredible fun !!

One last thing, pay attention to the cam timing and to the bearings on that bike.

Soooooo. Does that mean I could turn my 650 into a 470 by changing the rod to a 400?

It seems mines an fc as it says on head stock. Thanks 4 that.
As im taking it to bits I've found a new problems im not shore on.1 being their are 3 lose wires coming from the stator cover.... Three thinner 1's go to frame And what looks like an ecu? And 3 thicker ( 1 blue 2 yellow) go nowhere. Any ideas any 1?

Hi

The yellows and the blue are for lights and/or battery if you have one. So if you don't have lights or batt you don't need them.

The others, black (ground), green (timing), red (coil), orange (kill), white (if it's one FC you don't have), all goes to CDI.

Turns out mines an 02 fc 470 from headstock. And it says 2002 on cylinder head.
If found oil drain plug is minced up... Any 1 know how an amateur like me with limited tools can get it off?
I fancy a nice anodised 1 if any 1 has 1? Can pay pal cash via ebay.

undo it with a hammer and chisel and buy a new one.
