Progressive or straight rate spring

Just replaced my 04 FE 550 with an 09 FE570 and as I'm 97 KGs was going to replace the springs. My question is should I go straight rate or do the progressive springs work better in these bikes for trail riding, single track, rocky terrain. I am not the fastest guy or the slowest. Thanks for the help. Derek

I was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago. From my Internet research I came to the conclusion that many local suspension tuners recommend straight rate - probably because they are more familiar with them and they work well on other bikes. But the suspension companies that provide on-line services AND specialize in Husaberg tend to recommend progressive.

So I thought I would buy a progressive shock spring, but ended up buying a used straight rate spring off KTMtalk. If I decide to take the next step and get the shock re-valved, I will likely make the move to progressive at the same time.

But keep in mind this is all based on Internet research and I am certainly no suspension expert. Just sharing the research I have done. But experience usually trumps research.

I ride a 08 FE450 and an 07 KTM XC/W 300. I tried progressive springs on both and went back to straight weight springs on both. I think the progressive springs gave me a harsher ride. This is just my opinion.

I have a progressive spring and is very good. Race tech pds 30.
one thing to consider is the valving in the shock it's not the same with a progressive or a linear.

i think all husabergs after 2005 or 2006 are straight rate.

regards
