pressure regulator

Just bought a 2009 fe570. Bike ran good when I bought it. When I got it home it would start good intermittently. After reading up on the fuel pump problems I figured that was what it might be, even though the pump was running fine. Checked fuel pressure and it was below 10 psi and often zero. Was about to start pulling tank but decided to pull out the regulator at the top first.

Hit starter and fuel was just pouring out of the regulator. Removed regulator and you could blow through it both directions easily. Hooked gauge to pump output line and the pump easily reach 40 psi where i shut it off so as to not over pressure anything.

Cut old regulator apart and the diaphragm was pretty much in pieces. What would cause this on a bike with 74 hours?

CA Cycles sells the regulator for just under 50 dollars. Has anyone found a cheaper place to get them?

I had that happening too, started good when I bought it but at third trails ride no start. Not sure its the same, but easy enough to try.
Pour a cc of fuel down the intake and see if it starts?
If so one of your connectors isnt picking up signal correctly, I never found out why or where. But did cold start it this way until I got the chance to check up on it. Later I went over all connectors cleaned them and sprayed with eclectic grease, good from then on.

Not likely the regulator, as its just a spring more or less.
Do the test and see?

I know it is the regulator. When i took it apart the rubber valve was basically disintegrated. I could blow throgh it both directions with my mouth, which means maybe a few psi.

I dont knot if ethenal would do that or not. Found some very similar looking ones for toyota cars but not worth ordering if i dont know for sure they fit. At least i dont have to pull the tank and pump, that wasnt looking like it would be fun. Kind of a bummer they didnt use an all metal design.

Just figured i would post it up so people wouldnt just assume it was a fuel pump problem with low pressure.

1/4" self tapping hex head screws. 10 bux a box or cheaper. drill with nut drive and fifteen min of your time. Quick easy way to have fun in the snow and ice. 20 min to remove :)

ran into truoble with my 390 2010 today
had it for a few months and riden it 30 hours, now past 240 hours.

today when riding a fast track, at 5 times it cut out
when on full or almost full trottle, just died without warnning for a few seconds and then came back to life again to continue riding without a stop....

never any problems before..

got me thinking and ripping it appart tonight.

filters looks good, no spots of debree at all...

regulator or pump begining to fail ?
or injector ?

looked over all cables i could see, nothing to remark..

the only thing I notised when i tore it apart was that the crank-vent hose was not atatched to the cylinderhead (not connected to the airbox for a few years....)
