Pre Bent Fuel Line

On my '05 FE550 - the fuel line which goes from the Carb to the T connector (which in turn connects to the two lines going to the petcocks) has a leak in it. This is the line that has a very sharp bend to it that connects to the carb. I have a leak in this line and have tried replacing with a standard neoprene line, but the bend is too sharp and prevents the fuel from flowing.

Is there a pre-bent fuel line available, or something I can fix the leak in the old line with?

Thanks,
Rob

Hey there Rob,
i was mucking around with fuel line a while ago and it kinked also due to trying to run a small inline filter.
What i ended up doing was getting a coil spring slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the fuel line and placing it inside the fuel line. This seemed to work ok for me, it tends to stop the fuel hose kinking. I had to make sure the spring was almost the lenght of the peice of fuel hose less the fittings that slide on each end of the fuel line, this ensured the spring didnt work its way around the bend in the fuel line and allow kinking again.

If you contact a local spring manufacturers ,as i found , they had a box of left over springs in the front office of various sizes, I picked up a suitable one from there for $1 I think.
The only thing i havent looked at is to see if the spring has rusted inside the line.

Anyway hope this helps.

You could run the left tap around the front of the carby, and use the T on the right side.

You will have a short(3-4") line coming off the right tap into the T, and then a longish one from the T to the carb around the back of carb.

It eliminates the short line on the left and the u-turn line at the carb.

Make sure the lines don't rub on anything sharp when routing them.

This also would make fitting a filter easier I think.

Thanks guys. I also just gave my local dealer a call and he is going to get me the hose...not a big cost item.

Re-routing is a good option though - was only concerned that when routing the fuel line in front of the carb, it may be getting extra heat from the motor.

Hi robp

I've also made diferent routes for the fuel lines, but mine is a old 400.

Also add some extra heat protection.

If you whant to use one inner spring on one of your tubes, you can do it yourself, just put a rod the size you whant on a driller, then with some wire from some MIG welder start to rotate the driller slowly and wind the wire. After you can stretch it the way you want.

For tight bends I've ued short lengths of annealed copper tube bent to suit inside a coil spring bender. Available as 1/4" (6mm) and 5/16" (8mm) among others. Should all be available from your local plumbing suppliers.
