Power for grip heaters

Hi,

I want to install grip heaters on my FE570S but not sure where to get the power.
I heard that it's possible to take the power from the fan connector (I don't use it).
Is it true? Will there be power only when the engine is hot, thus sending power to the fan connector?

Thanks!

No, the fan connector is hot, but the circuit for the fan works off of a thermo switch you put in the radiator if you install a fan. Personally, I tied mine into a hot wire at the ignition swith, they work fine.

Check out the new AME heated grips . They are pricey but can be easily moved from an old bike to new bike they wire directly to the battery and have voltage sensors to recognize when the bike is running and will automatically shut of when not in use. Each side has individual heat settings most all other grip heaters are way un balanced in heat delivery do to thin throttle grip and plastic throttle tube

My FE had an unused auxiliary power connector underneath the battery, as shown below. It is the far right connector - the blue and brown wires are the ones I added to run up for the heaters. But this connector may be used on the S model.

To get more even heat on both grips I installed a piece of heat shrink on the left bar end to insulate the heater from the metal bar. This makes it match the plastic throttle side better. But I did have to use two throttle grips since it made the bar fatter.

The connector for the fan will have power while the engine is running so you could use it for the grip heaters depending on their rating. The wiring loom and switch which comes with the fan kit plugs into this connector. If I did not have the fan installed I would have used this for my grip heaters. This is probably better than having the grips wired directly to the battery as with the latter method it's very easy to forget and leave the grips on flattening the battery and yes!!....I've done it!

I agree that you do not want the grip heaters tied directly to the battery. If left on, they would drain your battery quickly. The aux connector I referred to is also on the power relay, so it is only hot when the motor is running. Wherever you decide to pick up the power, just make sure the wiring harness and fuse can handle the extra load of heaters.

Maybe a little late for the OP, but Sicass Racing has a plug that goes in line to the back of your headlight that has the right power and ground wires coming out of it. So you pull the plug out of the back of the headlight, plug in the the Sicass unit to the headlight, plug the original headlight plug into the back of the Sicass plug and presto, you have the wiring connections you need on a switched circuit.

Thanks!
I am just finishing my installation. It was the first time removing the tank.
The product you mentioned would've help a lot!

Thanks for the info!

You can give me the link for this product?

I've already bought and installed the KTM ones. Put a couple layers of electric tape on bars to provide some insulation.

I have the fan already on the bike. So I believe that eliminates that option.

Hmmmm...maybe I could disconnect the fan when I need the hand warmers and connect the fan when I don't. Seems that if it's cold enough for hand warmers the bike shouldn't be prone to overheating. Any comment on this strategy?

Thanks
