power dial/control?

Hi everyone,

this is a total newbie question but... my 2012 Fe570 has a dial near the handlebar that goes from 1 - 10. The seller, a knowledgeable mechanic that i trust told me this dial controls the power of the bike 1 being soft, 2 medium and 3 wild mode. Ive owned many different dirt/enduro bikes and never seen anything like this before, it almost seems to good to be true. I tried the bike on different modes and it pretty much drives the same.

Can you guys give me more info about this dial? Is that really the purpose of this control? If not, what is it for? And if so, how does it work? Is it an electrical control of the EFI?

Thank you

you have to turn the engine off to change Mode. I can't however rercall which number did which but I thought that '0' was one of them? 0, 1, 2?

someone will come along soon and say....

Taffy

The dial is in fact a map switch. There are three different maps as your mechanic stated.
I found the "soft" map to be great racing in the rain, and in crap/slippery conditions.
The "normal" map is just what it is and the "hot" map is more top end...but leaves the bottom a little soft...I would race using the hot map on open tracks and the normal map on tighter tracks. (racing, being supermoto)

I have a 09 FE450 and this is how they are set for me. I have heard of instances where they are not the same.

1 - soft - traction
2 - hard - aggressive
3 to 10 - standard

All it changes is the timing hence why you dont feel much/nothing at all.

To get the most out of it, run in conjunction with a piggyback tuner.

Thank you guys! Ive only been driving this bike regularly for about a week. Ill try out the different modes and will prob notice the difference once im more experienced.

Does anyone know how the mechanism works. Is it.related to the EFI?

if Alan's post above yours is correct, it isn't related to EFI, only ignition timing

Adam I missed your post. Just wondering... Would changing the ign timing not cause a bad combustion? If that is so i doubt husa would have installed this on their bikes. Is this supposed to be used with a tuner as you suggest?

No its fine to run the switch in either mode. Just make sure you are running at least the required octane level.

Now, lets look at this from another angle - these bikes come in a lean state from the factory to pass emissions. Plenty of people run these as is. Not ideal really as they are running a leaner AFR than what is optimal for longevity. An open muffler, opened up airbox, a piggyback tuner to correct the AFRs and you are doing the bike a favour and eventually your back pocket.

Do these mods, including fitment of the 390/450 airbox to the 570, along with the map switch and the bike will love you for it.
