Whats up all, I am new in here and know nothin about these bikes other than the one I'm lookin at runs like a raped ape. First off its a 98 FX600E from what I can tell, it seems to run very well with no major leaks, plastic is decent but could use new stickers. He is asking 1350.00 I could prob get it for 1200.00-1250.00, is the bike worth it? I also dont want this to be like a Husqvarna and I cant get parts for it if/when it does break. Are parts readily available? Its truthfully more bike than I needed or really wanted, but I figured if the price was good and these were pretty dependable I would jump on it and have some fun killin myself on it lol. One more thing if there is anyone out there that can tell me about things I need to look for on this bike please let me know, I'll take all the input you can give me. Thanks, Royce

Sounds like it could be fun. Price sounds good. Just remember that it is an 8 year old race bike. They required TLC when new and twice as much when they are old :D . Parts should be available for the most part.
Inspect it like you would any other used bike. Does it look thrashed, does the guy who ownes it seem to have a clue as to what he has? How do the wheel bearings feel. How are the chain and sprockets? Does the guy have any history on the bike, or maintenance records, reciepts etc..
I will give you the same advise I give anyone else...If you are not mechanically inclined, or dont like to do maintenance..DO NOT BUY THE BIKE!!
The 600 was a good motor and are a blast to ride.

I bought a 98 FE600 for my first bike after a 13 year hiatus from riding...

I was comfortable with the purchase, the price was right... but after one season I did end up dumping about 750 into it for top end parts and a stator/flywheel. I don't regret it because it was therapy for me to be out in the garage after the kids were in bed.

Dan at Motoxotica had all the parts for that bike whenever I needed them... at one point i did pay him about 4-500 for labor because i did not have the time to fix it before a big trip to Utah. but had i had the time i most likely would have done it myself...

As berger said, if you don't like to fiddle and maintenance like clockwork scares you... pass... unless you can talk him down to under 1000 ... then i would say ride the stuff out of it... my 98 was a good bike

he most likely will have a hard time finding a buyer for that bike for over $1000

rottenstang,

Berger has given some wise advise and I could not have said it any better. The Husaberg bikes are hobbies in the garage as well as the trails, if you enjoy spending time with a beer in one hand and a wrench in the other there is no better bike... Im not telling you that the bikes are junk and fall apart all the time but they do require some upkeep. Remember, you'll be riding the fastest bike in the world!

The Lockheed Martin designed SR-71 "Blackbird" leaks like a siv when grounded but when cruising at mach 2, the gaps seal from thermal expansion due to the friction of air passing the skin of the plane. I've also heard that the plane stretches and is actually several inches longer due to the expansion.

We are not plane pilots here but my point in telling you this is that if the bike you have your eye on is leaking, do not fret, just ride it at mach 2 (fifth gear) and it will stop!!!

Regards,

Now that was funny Keith. I honestly wasnt worried about the oil leak because it really isnt bad at all, this guy has no idea what he has at all. The bike has been 4 sale almost three months now so I might try for a grand. He did say he had not touched it for over a month and didnt know if it would start, but when I kicked the first time it busted off. The maintenance part scares me because I dont know how many people had it before him that didnt know anything about bike. As far as workin on it I would think I'm capable, I do fix on everything else lol. I do appreciate everyones input and hopefully will be a regular in here from now on. Thanks again, Royce
