Just wondering if the plug colour in certain parts of the plug determines what part of the jetting it affect like in 2 strokes. mine is fine in centre and porcelain but outer edge is black any ideas?

this might help.
base ring colour is what you are looking for, sounds like its too rich......or using oil?

i'm afraid the modern lead free fuel means that you can't get a plug colour anymore. some electronic ignitions won't give a colour whatever either!

best to look inside the tailpipe 2" down. this is only good for MJ testing while the rest of your jetting you should go by feel. you don't know whether what you have is right till you try something else.

try a fresh plug and also you can split the tailpipe from the centre. this is thee best place to look.

traditionally the tip told you how it was running immediately prior to stopping while the deeper you looked gave a more overall view. the problem is that you can have a PJ flooding the engine and you're trying to get a MJ reading but then it was ever thus and we always survived.

Taffy
