Hi there guys,

I received a report from someone that they were unable to use the chatroom in Internet Explorer 8. Once they mentioned it, I found that I had the same problem in IE 8, but only in Vista and 7(not in XP). I was wondering if you guys could help me try to narrow down the determining factors.

First, make sure you're logged into the site. Then, please visit the front page and click on either the lounge link or the chat link below it. A popup should appear that loads the chatroom flash applet. If you get into the chatroom, it's successful. If you receive a login/pass box, it was unsuccessful. Here's the results of my personal tests,:

Linux:
Firefox(latest): works
Opera(latest): works
IE(6): works

Windows XP:
IE(8.0.6): works
Firefox(latest): works

Windows Vista:
Firefox(latest): works
IE(8.0.6): does not work

Windows 7:
Firefox(latest): works
IE(8.0.7): does not work

If you could please try to enter the chatroom and let me know

1) if you were successful
2) your operating system and browser version

I'd be greatly appreciative.

Popup window opens but I can't see anything but the white background.
Perhaps I've done something somewhere in the comp since Flash related items sometimes doesn't work...

Heya ghost,

ver. 8 is very old for flash. Most web based apps require at least nine and many are beginning to require 10. I believe the chat system requires 9 at a minimum.

A stupid question......... Do I need to be using IE 8 or my usual FF browser when I visit the page?
 
Both, if you could. It will help me determine whether we're dealing with the flash module itself or the browser's utilization of it.
 
Windows XP X64 edition:
Fifefox 3.6.3-->Works
IE 8.0.6001 -->white background, no chat box
 
i can get into the chat room with opera

vista x64
opera 10.53 works
ie 8 no go login window

flash WIN 10,0,45,2
 
Thanks for your help guys. I couldn't get a response from the developer concerning this issue, so I'll begin looking for a replacement chat system. With as little as it's used, I'll be trying to find something lacking bells and whistles in exchange for not using Adobe Flash for it's basis. Everyone getting a blank page is suffering from Flash not being called to load the chatroom applet and are actually suffering from a different problem than those getting the login box.

As much as I dislike flash as a web content platform, it makes it a-ok for me to jettison the chat room. It will just take a little bit of time to find and integrate another system. Until then, consider using a superior browser to IE, like, um, any browser other than IE. Seriously. Taping a piece of paper to your monitor and drawing the sites onto it with a sharpie would result in better performance. :)

Yeah works good with Firefox. Dale and I just drank all the beer in the bar fridge in the lounge can you re stock it Json?

Hmm... Yes it is. Strange I updated flash twice before I wrote here just to be on the safe side that I didn't have an old version. Since your reply I've updated flash twice and now after the forth time it works.
guess that says more about me as a computer geek than anything else... :lol: :lol:

Glad it's working for you Ghost and I appreciate you updating the thread with your results.

I've been playing around with another type of chat system and will see if I can come up with something that doesn't rely on additional technologies.
