got piston ring problem... ordered rings from dealer. they are too wide to fit in my grooves. they are marked as '02 onwards. mine is a '99 FE501. apparently all same part number. i was meant to have a competition at start of September...not anymore! anyone know if earlier pistons have smaller grooves? how would I know if my piston is an original or a pattern?

i think you are in the same boat as many others are.it seems it is hard to get rings for ~2002 and older thru Husaberg.they change piston manufacturers and then do not supply the rings.i would just bite the bullet and buy a new wossner piston kit $150 and you can go racing.dan

have someone check the rings old and new. if it can be established that a little tickle on the lathe will sort it - i would try the rings you were sent.

traditionallly manufacturers have p[laced the forging number underneath. maybe a 3-figure number?

i woule definately take a risk that it was OEM. the chances that it's not are so small as to be negligable!

Cheers guys,
it was a wossner piston. now got rings and fitted them . had troubles getting rings into barrel with piston fitted to con rod. so tried old 2 stroke trick of carefully inserting piston and rings into the bore. placed piston and barrel on studs and then fitted the gudgeon pin through conrod.
not keen on the lathe tickle idea. i had a suzuki RM piston that wore out the rings by 9 thou in 9 miles, because of a fault with the ring groove! i fitted another new piston and problem solved. then a year after, a mate took my piston and it wore out freakishly quickly again. mate was not happy when I told him that is how a new looking piston was sat in my workshop!!!!
