Can anyone confirm at what hours my 2011 fx450 should have a piston change . I only use it for green lane and odd enduro . Oil change all the time . I got told that the piston would not need changing for around 300 hours that seems a lot . I had a ktm250 and I changed that at 50 hours as it needed it.

I got a 09 FE450 it has over 400hrs and still perfect! Nothing has really been changed

How is that possible? 8O

That is roughly 24000km for me. Surely the crank at least needs servicing at that hours. Does your bike vibrate alot?
Older Bergs needed new bearing at 100-150h.

I am @ 280 engine hours on my 2004 650 since last rebuild. big end bearing and balancer is 380 hrs old.

I kid you not

I bought it off a guy with 380hrs. My 010 Fx450 done over 100hrs with nothing but oil changes never had a valve out of spec. But my 09 450 I can't get over it myself I've actually got down and listened to the engine and I can't fault it, Starts on the button in any weather. I guess it does not really vibrate more than any other 3 year old bike, not to make me think that the big end bearing was playing up. I am going to do a top end on it but the bottom end will be staying the same, I've heard of a new shape berg that is on a trail hoilday camp with 750hrs on the bottom end.

450s don't get thrashed anything like a 250 and the rule is: "HEAT KILLS" so we're pretty safe for a while methinks BUT when the day comes and someone is unlucky after 1000 hours and the book says 100 we shouldn't immediately write to the factory calling their product 'crap'!

I think I'm on 300+ and it is nearly all racing, practicing and a little green laning.

regards

Taffy

Holy crap.

Just when I thought that I got myself a race machine that needs tinkering every weekend here and there, to keep it running. Well guess I couldn't more wrong. I've checked twice the valves and now at 50h they haven't moved from factory spec. Oil changes every 5h and filter 10h. Don't know how these figures change when the bike gets around 20hp more power, but atm I must say I'm very impressed.

Ha!
Have 300h on an old -99 501, oil changes every 15-20h, only cam/folower bearings, cam shaft seals, water pump seal are replaced and still going strong.
