Pissed off over Skid Plate

Well anyways I took my aluminum skid plate off the bike last night and was not happy to see that it has nicely worn through the frame paint and thats after only 20 some hours. I can allready see some corrosion. Now am sanding and priming and painting the bottom of the frame and I certainly will not be using that POS skid plate until I epoxy some rubber or figure out an alternative.
Anyone have some words of wisdom or a favorite skid plate they use that avoids this problem? Cheers.

as far as im aware you get it eventually with every skid plate, though as you say a good bit of rubber between the frame rails and plate do help alot.

i've actually taken to no not using the skid plate unless its rocky as they just seem to fill up with 20lbs of mud.

Maddy,

See about finding the thinnest heater hose available and split in half or less and cut it to fit the frame rails where the skid plate would touch. Then just use a couple of bits of stainless .027" safety wire to hold it in place for when you remove the skid plate.

I have mine set up so that I can roll them on top of the frame rails when I change the oil so that they don't fill up with oil when doing a change.

Cypher-If I know I am to ride in muddy conditions I jsut tie some of that reticulated foam in the area's where the mud could come in at, and around the sides of the motor etc to keep it at bay. I will also tie a bit of the foam in a ball around all the breather tubes of the carb so the mud cannot clog up things there as well.

Dale great idea. I knew if I asked someone would have already figured out a solution. That hose idea is perfect because if I chose not to run the plate sometimes I still get a bit of protection from the hose. Problem Solv-ed!
