More info on the 24 Hour Challenge @ Perry Mountain
Thanks piggd for posting your notes on the "24"!
I wanted to wait and make sure the Elite Class protest didn't change team #11 standings in the overall. Plus, I wanted to share a little more info on our adventure @ Perry Mountain.
Race Report:
Perry Mountain 24 Hour Challenge June 4 & 5 2005
Elite Team Husaberg Racing under the direction of Southeastern US Husaberg Rep [Scott Lee] & Dealer Prospect SLM Racing of Arlington, TX ~ along with Open Sportsman Team SRS Powersports under the direction of shop owner James Smith an Alabama Husaberg dealer, pulled out an impressive showing for Husaberg loyalist at the Perry Mountain 24 hour race in Stanton, Alabama.
The Husaberg Racing team #11 entered the Elite class with riders: Todd Tarver, Jay Navero, Curtis Kirchmeier, Cody Potts, Tim Henion, and Jess Roberson. On a 2005 FE550e with nothing more than Enduro Engineering handguards, Scott’s Performance steering damper and a Dunlop 756 rear tire, and a Trail Tech Headlight System. Also we used 7th Gear Performance Lubricants, engine / transmission oil (10w40) & chain lube. All of the Team Elite riders, except one, had no prior experience on an Enduro Husaberg before the start of this event. * My riders got to ride the bike the night before the event started the next morning, to adjust suspension settings and to get a feel of things.
This 4th Annual Perry Mountain 24 Hour Race was like racing a GNCC, the Elite Class and also the other Expert classes was the who’s who in the off-road racing world. Here is just a few of the names that showed up; Nathan Woods, Ty Davis, Barry Hawk, Randy Hawkins, Jason Rains, Matt Stavish, John Barber, Russell Bobbitt. Like I said, it was like going to a National Championship race.
With, virtually a stock `05 FE550e Husaberg, 6 riders that really and truly had no ride time are testing on the FE550e, had 2 front flats, we also took the time to change the oil & air filter during the race (which most other elite/expert teams did not), swapped out a rear wheel assembly, a few soil samples, big nasty blisters; other than that, the FE550 and Team kicked some Righteous Butt. Team #11 Husaberg Racing got 13the overall out of 124 entries, and 8the overall in the Elite class against a field of top 20 National Pro racers. On top of it all, the running joke I heard all weekend long from a lot of our competitors and even spectators were (we’ll see if that Husaberg will finish the 24 hour race). We did indeed finish the race with a respectable overall; we even won the Top Speed Demon Award at 88mph, with the next closest top speed at 83mph. To put icing on the cake, the dealership team SRS Powersports # 77 which ran the a FE450e in the Open Sportsman Class Finished the race with a overall of 57th out of 124 entries and 6th overall in their class.
All in all, it was a hell of a lot of fun, and I know the Husaberg(s) turned a few skeptics into believers. This is just the beginning of the battle in the Southern States, but I know my weapon of choice is a Husaberg, Period!
Love & Wheelies,
Cajun
