Permanent solution for water in the carb? is there any

It is certainly a design fault for this bike to get water in the carb boot each time I wash it. I want to find a way to prevent the air filter getting wet . After washing when I check the air filter I see that almost every part of it is saturated with drops ready to be sucked to the carb ( already some in the boot ). Before running the engine I clean the filter+boot but each time it stalls and the procedure ends with carb draining.. There has to be a solution which I don't know  .. please help

thanks,

Mesut

First make sure that the water is not running down the frame by using a silicone diversion (see photo in my gallery, link shown below). This will take care of most water. Placing a platic bag over the filter when washing shouold take care of the rest.

When washing the bike, try removing the seat and wrapping the filter with a plastic bag. I remove the filter, place it in a plastic bag(small garbage bag or the like), then reinstall the filter. The plastic will keep the filter dry and seal the intake opening. While the filter is off, a couple of clean rags in the intake boot wouldn't hurt. Hope this helps.

Dito.

Like the rest all I do is: 1) remove the seat with the handy-dandy one screw and, 2) wrap the filter with a plastic bag you would get at the grocery market then, 3) reinstall the seat and, 4) wash. After your done washing the bike, pull the seat again and remove the plastic bag and wal-la, your done!

Regards,

Doing all that from the previous posts and, if you remove the tank for better cleaning, insert 2 (two) M8 screws in the fuel lines to prevent the water going in

HI Mesut

The following is how i clean my bike and i never get water in the carb boot.

Seat and tank off, remove air filter. Degrease frame around air filter and stick duct/gaffer tape over opening. 8mm bolts in fuel lines a bung in end of exhaust. Remove side panel/rear fender, pop open a bottle, put some music on and wash away all your cares :D

:) thankyou all for your posts, up to your answers even though not being permanent there is still a solution for the problem.

I'll do what you suggest and think on this problem to find a way to make this water problem a history for us all..

Okay, who knows somebody at "No Toil" or "Twin Air"? They make airbox covers for plenty of bikes...If possible, maybe see if they would be interested in making one for these. I'll take my bike to them, because they are 20 miles from me!

I just sent them an e-mail, so maybe, they'll bite. Keep posting to this thread, because I just referred them to it...

If you want a cover for your "Air box" for washing your bike...don't sit idly by...say so!

I'd certainly buy one! I usually put a plastic bag over the filter before washing the bike but would rather use something designed just for that purpose.

Thats exactly what I did, I emailed them just 3 days ago.
I wonder if they will take the hint.

The company "No-Toil" is located in Yuba City, CA. About 20 minutes from my house. I sent an e-mail to brad @ notoil dot com (spelled out for spam prevention) offering up my bike for design, etc...but I think we'll need more 'help' to see this to fruition.

Of course, the website is www.notoil.com so, help them recognize the worldwide size of our community. Who knows? Maybe they'll start making stuff for our bikes.

I must say, I'll never use another filter oil/cleaner again. This stuff is the best.

I've been using NO Toil and their filters on my husabergs since what '99 I think. They make filters for all the Husabergs by the way.

If you do not know anything about no toil, then here is a little info: No Toil filter oil is bio degradable. And, you wash your filter in the kitchen sink as there is no odor to smell up the house. When you open the drain, all the dirt goes down with the water.

Now, I can already hear someone saying, well that means if the filter gets wet the oil will come off and my motor will be ruined. NOT TRUE. The oil only breaks down with their cleaner, that is also bio degradable.

Others have worried wheter or not their oil will stop the dirt, that too was my worry before I started using it. However, the mechanic at Eric's in Pasadena CA used NO TOIL on his two stroke bike, and now his four stroke bike, and he assured me that it would stop all the dirt, perhaps even better than the other stuff. So, I decided to try it, much to the chagrin of my riding partners. The first race I rode with it was a Desert Scrambles in Red Mountain, the race was 66 miles long, and for about 3/4 of the race I was in super thick dust as I had got a bad start that morning. During the race I was thinking to myself, well this is the test 0 fire for the NO TOIL.

On monday after that race as I was taking my seat off to put a plastic bag over the filter before washing my bike, I thought well this should be interesting...... My air filter looked like a dark choclate brownie! I put the seat back on washed the bike, started it up as usual, then drained the oil. I pulled the filter off and reached down into the boot with a white rag and there was NO dirt in there.

To compare, when I was using Maxima foam filter oil, in conditions described above there would always be a slight amount of extremely fine dust in there.

The NO TOIL oil will not wash out with gasoline either, unlike petroleum based filters oils.
