Due to the natural forces of aging I have elected to have intraocular lens replacements(folded type) in both my eyes in an attempt to restore my vision and rid myself of glasses forever. At this point with the second surgery only a few days old I have already achieved 20/20 vision in my left eye(first) and expect comparable results in my right eye over the next few days and my glasses are now in the garbage can.
I was wondering if anyone else out there in Husa-world has had this procedure performed and specifically what effect it has on your ability to ride and see, at speed, on your motorcycle. My surgeon elected to use medium range lenses in both my eyes.

I did not have the IOL, but I did have lasik "flap and zap" this spring. As a wearer of glasses / contacts for 32 of my 40 yrs in existance, I can tell you that 20/20 vision is nothing short of miraculous (I had BAD eyes). The only downfall I have seen (pun intended), is that I see 20/20 everywhere. After all the years of looking thru floating / rotating contact lense or glasses with a very small portion of the lense that wasn't diestorted, to see so much information (peripheral vision, etc) in focus is often overwhelming. I have noted this most when at speed and relearning how to keep focused well ahead, but still be aware of stumps, tree limbs, etc. Depth perception, especially as related to jumps and drop offs still has me riding tentatively.

My father had the folded lense insertion and it worked good.
He was even able to out shoot me on the target range.Do
they come in a 4x ?

Totaly OT here for a second just to expand my knowledge in the english language....

Where the H-ll does the expression 20/20-vision come from :?: :?: :?:
What does it mean, 20/20???

Also why is all basic classes in something called "101" :?: :?: :?: Like "Jetting your FCR-carb, 101". Where does the 101 come from??

If you can read "DEFPOTEC" from a certain distance, then you have 20/20 vision, meaning optimal.

As far as "101", the high school system in the US is modular. From what I remember, the first number is the year or stage, the second and third are the part, so in this case this means "stage one, part one".

Now, why do you guys like to take saunas and then jump into frozen lakes?

Tm-enduro,
Thanks for your reply,I did not require glasses until I was 35 yrs old,but in the last 5 years I too found that with the required fully blended lenses that my vision had narrowed to two narrow focal points. The thrill of ripping down a rough trail with your glasses bouncing all over the place is a thrill I will not miss.I too feel that I may have a challenge focusing at all ranges as IOL is only capable of perfect focus in a specific range.

The term 20/20 refers to the established data gathered over the years of what a person sees.Example: 20/20 means that you see at 20 feet distance what the average person sees at 20 feet distance.20/40 means that you see at 20 feet what the average person sees at 40 feet .In europe where metric measurement is used I believe the term for normal vision is 6/6.

Glad to "see" everything went well.
Is there snow up in the Valley yet as I don't have my bike put awa.

No Snow yet Kelsow and none in the near future forecast

Do you have to wait a while before you can ride again, or do you think you can get out for a leisurely spin with the riders/talkers?

Hi nsman I had left eye done 2 years ago and right eye 15years ago yes
vision is better but not the same as prior to surgery one thing that lens
implant cant take care of is stigmatism and reading vision also remember
that increases risk of retinal detachment it happen me not pleasant experience, For years I have been riding without glasses wich worked out
ok but always had pack my normal glasses while trail riding just to read
maps or trail fix bike, Recently I did a 25 hour race and after the race I
was going through lap times and noticed that my night lap times had slowed down more than team mates so now back wearing glasses when I
ride but with new goggles (smith turbo fan ) and RX insert that had made
riding a new experience things appear sooner details more crisp and RX insert dont bother me like glasses I newer thought that a little stigmatism and correction would do that much Before you have your other eye done
be shure that your vision is stabile in operated eye things can get weird
lets say the operated eye is slightly near sighted and and other eye get
far sighted that is not good combo have Doc make them the same
GOOD LUCK

Viking,
Thanks for your reply,my surgeon used the same or very close lenses in both eyes.So far my vision is very good at close range and I seem to be able to read all but the finest print with no glasses.Only thing I think I may need a little tweaking is my medium to long range vision,it is not as sharp as I would like. There is a good chance I may use glasses for driving/riding. I borrowed a pair of glasses from a young fellow that is in my employ this morning who said he needs glasses only for distance and they really improved vision from 50 ft to the horizon. His glasses are very light wt. so that is a option.
I am aware of the retinal detachment issues, they are very rare, was there any any special circumstances in your case?

Hi nsman I had retinal in both eyes in left eye the cause where a long term inflammation of the parasplaina inflammation got underneath retina and
popped it loose but my right eye just got tear and that could happen to
anyone from what I read it happens to adults 35-48 old reasons for that
is that the eyeball reshapes at that age another thing to get used to is
tri focal glasses though to get used to in the beginning after using a few lenses the one that I like the is Seize ( may not be spelled correctly)
progressive lenses they have best perifial vision in distance and reading in
comparasion other lenses
have fun play lots of MX unleashed in your recovery

Just an update for anyone thinking of having this procedure. It is now 19 days since my left eye and 11 days since my right eye.The vision in my left eye is now 20/15 and 20/25 in my right eye. I do have and have always had mild stigmatism in my right eye(shaped like a football). At this point my vision is as good as it ever was with glasses and as good as it ever was without glasses as far as I can remember. My eyesight continues to improve and is especially good in the mornings in good light conditions. Two differences are that it took some time to get used to having peripheral vision again, glasses frames and the effect that glasses have on the eye muscles have a negative effect on this feature.Next is that i use my eye muscles again to focus instead of simply moving my eyes to a different point in the lens as you do when wearing blended eye glasses,I found that my eyes would feel tired but this diminishes each day. At this point I do not require glasses at all expect to read very fine print,I will now conclude this(road) :D test of this procedure. FWIW i chose my surgeon carefully I was looking for a man(bigger ego than a women)who was at the top of his game between the age of 36-42 who specialized in this procedure ,I found him and he did a great job.
