Performance Exaust End Cap

Gidday all,

Just wondering if anyone has come accross a Generic aftermarket part by 'Pro-moto' or 'pro-bike', or something of that approximate name, the product is an exhaust silencer end cap, to fit Berg and KTM silencer cans.

the product has a significantly wider appature than the FE / EXC end caps and a slightly more elongated conical end (looks closer to the Akrapovic exhaust end cap, but is nickel plated like the Berg / KTM cap) and in actual fact is not far removed from the FC / SX cap.

the product purports to 'out perform performance aftermarket pipes'.

the only major difference from the FE cap, is that it allows straight through gas flow (like the FC cap), FE Aus and Eur models have a kinked perforated tube in the last 10" of the silencer where the gas must backflow to escape the silencer, USA is different.

if anyone has used this product (i have only recently seen this product in a KTM store in Adelaide SA, Aust.), I'd be keen to find out if it is worth the $150- Aus, alternatively, does the FC cap installed on a stock FE550e produce performance gains - (i would expect in the bottom end power)??

any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure of the performance aspect of the end cap. I know they provide for a spark arrestor and quiet core for the FC can. All and all they make quality componants.

are these the endcaps your on about? www.promotobillet.com.

as berger says would seem that they are more for converting your stnd exhaust to a spark arrestor. they may out perfom other spark arrestors but i wouldn't have thought they would have any major gains.

Maybe you are thinking of the "Prorider" end caps made by Prorider KTM here in Australia?

They are exactly the style of endcap you mentioned- basically turn a FE/EXC pipe into an FC/SX unit by eliminating the "dogleg" id the std cap and have much, much larger outlet.

i've seen that the factory use a quat D pipe which is identical to the OEM stuff so i'm really not sure where you're coming from?

the FE end cap has a 25mm hole, the FC end cap has a 35mm hole and i dynoed the two. there was a 3/4 bhp difference all the way from zero for the Fc pipe.

if you aren't running a lineaweaver cam you don't need bigger. i run an LX2 and had a flat spot to about 4k but an open 'can' almost ANY can will stop that.

Taffy

any of you guys know of a place in the states that can get me a FE can for an FC machine or somthing to that effect Hollister is getting very picky here in Cen CAL

Performance Exhaust End Cap

they pay you to take them away in europe. do i really have to put up the'european e-bay'link yet again just to get you septic tanks to switch on?

how many times have we got to say it?

will some of you please take the link and stick it in your 'favourites' or should that be favorites'.

although i don't like the facility to change the name of a thread i can at least put an 'H' in exhaust. i feel better now.

RE: Performance Exhaust End Cap

I believe the question was "any of you guys know of a place in the STATES" allot less shipping that way.

Thanks Guys,
AUSBERG has the right one, it is a Prorider part, and it does eliminate the kink in the perforated tube that the FE cap has and replaces it with a straight through tube.

AUSBERG, have you ever heard of any results from the product, I was told, and i think that the packaging states that it will match the performance of an aftermarket system.

Taffy, put the red correction pen away... usually I have the light off when I am typing so as not to disturb the wife or kid, I'll be sure to spell check so as not to offend you next time! By the way, is 3/4 HP noticable to ride?

all I am chasing is a touch more bottom end punch for my FE 550e.

I'm still hoping that someone has tried one of these on a Katoom or Berg, and can vouch for the product being either worth the $150.00 or a load of schite.

Cheers!

Hi Azza,
I fitted one to my 02 520.
The combination of the end cap and the advised jetting for it definetly transformed my 520 from a nice smooth easy to ride bike into something which had much more bottom and midrange "stomp".
I would recommend trying one, if the decision was based on performance alone.

However, I would not recommend one overall due to the fact it will make your bike LOUD. 8O
EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD. 8O 8O 8O 8O
As a matter of fact, they warn you about this on the packaging ie "suitable for competition use only :doubt: .
Soon after fitting it I was going to remove it again based on NOISE alone, but I got used to it.
My riding friends however did not, and would remind me at every oppurtunity how excessively IRRITATING my EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD bike was , even though they too were riding bikes with modified pipes, mine was a shocker:cry: .

Its your call mate- it will go harder but you will get a lot more people paying attention to you.And some of that attention you may not want.

I'd personally do some research into an FMF Q series or similar that can make improvements powerwise with a reasonably subdued noise level. But for $150, the Prorider piece sure is tempting..................

Interesting: as I am typing this the tinnitus ring in my ears suddenly has become much more annoying

Cheers,
AUSBERG

Jason, that's if you ride a hog, and ride with no helmet as if you were even tougher than asphalt.

Sorry kid, the law's the law.

AUSBERG,

we have only 3 cops over here, they drive Holdens, so they wouldnt keep up with a Minni Moke, let alone a 550, that and they have nearly 5000 square Km's to cover...

hows about you send your excessively loud Prorider Cap to me, and i'll 'test' it???

I' do commute in the town, usually past the cop shop, my bike doesent have mirrors either, but all the cops like it and want to take it for a ride... (I did my 'L's on the 550)

by the way, did you pack the end chamber of the silencer with good packing wool? or did you leave the empty space?

Azza.

I replaced the end cap of my FE with that of an FC and I don't know for the performance, but louder it is.

my 06 FE450e seems to be louder after 110 hours. easily passed a sound test but it's louder, maybe the stuffing is worn out?

Sorry Azza :( - the Prorider endcap stayed in my 520 when I traded it on my 04 300EXC

The Prorider kit actually came with the extra packing required as a part of the whole kit, so it was packed properly :)

AUSBERG,

It wasnt an 03 or 04 with white racing numbers on it Eh? Number 97??, B&B bashplate, had a steering damper on it???

Theres one that lives just up the road from me, it has a different end cap (I thought it was a SX KTM cap), it is LOUD, and the throttle response is snappy as crocodile sh*?!t.

I took a ride on this one before I bought my Berg, and was impressed - the response was like a 250 motocrosser - a bit of a handfull in tight trails though.

do you know the name of the guy who you sold it to??

Azza
