PDS bikes compared to older models

Just out of curiosity is the frame geometry of the PDS bikes different to that of the earlier models with the WP or Ohlins linked shock or are the spring rates and damping completely different. The 97 FC 501 that I have (WP 50mm forks and Ohlins shock) doesn’t get head shake even with the forks slid up 10mm in the clamps. The suspension hasn’t been revalved just dialled in with the clickers and sag set.

Both my 94 and my 2001 have some headshake and I ran steering dampers on both, the 94 was far worse. The PDS shock is great, no problems!

Hi there,

I don´t think that the frame geometry of ´94 and 2001 are totally different.
It´s nearly the same geometry, but they changed the frame in some details.
The distance between the main points (swingarm bearings - top screw of shockabsorber - fork stem) are the same. The biggest difference between ´94 and ´01 is the shockabsorber. They have a different set up. Maybe your ´94 has got a little too much preloud. Turn the nut 2 rounds back, it can work miracles. But you have to measure your slack. Should be round about 90-100 mm at your loaded bike.
The Oehlins shockabsorber of ´94/´95 was the best and safetiest undercarriage I have ever ridden.
