Based on the limited feedback I received from this forum, I am passing on the chance to buy an 01 FE400E. They appear to have too many engine problems. Actually it sounds like the old style 1999 model would be best for me. If anyone has a pre-2001 FE400e out there and wants to sell it, please let me know.

Hi, I have a 97 fe-400 that still has original tires, chain, sprockets. I had a complete engine rebuild by fletch Trick Racing in 2001-02. I ridden this bike maybe 4 hrs. The bike is in upstate N.Y. I moved to Florida in 2003 bike is still in N.Y. I love this bke just do not have anytime to ride. Not positive I will sell but thinking about it. Call Dave at 239-821-6988 for more complete details of bike.

Your comment about the 01 FE400E engine is not valid. I've got one and have not replaced 1 part in engine over 7000kms of bush riding. I change oil, clean filter and adjust valve clearances regularly. It still runs like a new one.

Most of the premature component failures have occurred on the 650's. The baby 400 will be and is the most durable of the bunch. If you were to adhere to the factory outlined maintenance schedule and update certain parts at that time you should be fine.

Perhaps this site at times provides too much information and can scare off a potential Berg owner. I think that by design Husaberg enthusiasts are wired slightly different and must know everything about the bike and how to make it even better. Most who own one will agree that the bikes are worth the extra effort.

schultzy gave you a direct offer to ship you a bike from lemont illinois to you - a '98 FE600. what happened there?

also the 400 isn't unreliable, it's very reliable, it needs to have some updates done, all can be done without stripping the engine. the balancer was never a problem on the 400 and indeed i told you this.

you should have bought the 400 and allocated workshop money and time for a check of the items mentioned. it could turn out that the rocker mod was done and the camwheel made of steel. that just leaves the camchain and the modern tensioner and in the meantime you've had someone check the engine over for piece of mind....

Bought Ned's 1998 FE400e

Thanks for all the advice. I bought Ned's 98 FE400E and love it. Its in great shape and has all the power I could ever want. I used it in Moab over the weekend and had a great time. Interestingly enough it starts the eazyest here in denver so I don't have to jet the carb.

RE: Bought Ned

Ned, is that the same bike you road on the Force Ride? If so Longshanks will have a nice ride. Welcome to the site, Please ( as a site tradition) explain your screen name.

RE: Bought Ned

thats the one, jesse. it was a great bike! a veritable tractor. and i just upgraded to bergdude's 04 fe450 blackberg. these newer bikes are quite the leaper. never was able to bunnyhop a berg before now. with the 98, you had to keep it wound up to be able to toss the front end around, but with this one, just preload and blip. yeehaw  i see why you were smiling with yours at moab.
(and gary, you don't have to listen to jwilly  )
