Hello all, I have done a quick search on this and nothing specific popped up so Im asking the question. Sorry if it has already been covered on here somewhere! I have a 99 FE400 with a locked up bottom end, possibly big end bearing. I have noticed a 99 FC600 is being parted out on this site and I have enquired about the engine to replace my tired and broken 400. The 600 is in parts and not entirely complete. My question is will my stator, rotor, water pump impellor from the 400 fit the 600? Are there many differences between these engines that would hinder such a swap? Are there any differences in the ignition systems? The old 400 was my first berg and I would love to see it live again and it would be even more fun with the 600! Would be great if it could stand up to my 570, in power anyway! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

is your fe400 an electric start? if so the fc and fe engines have different cases and the frames are different if yours is non elec start then will be same fc600 has a larget bore (95mm= 600 92mm=400) stroke is different (84mm=600 60.2mm=400) the parts you mention should interchange as my parts book lists them as the same
the ign curve may be different for the 400 but it would still run

yes my 400 is an electric start model. I wasnt too fussed about losing the electric start as I had been kick starting the 400 for sometime anyway but I was unaware that the frames would differ. Maybe this wasn't a quick power up option for me after all! It is probably more realistic for me to fix the engine I have!I just figured if I was to rebuild it anyway it may as well get an upgrade in power. Thanks for the input.

i found out about the frames when i tried to put an elec start motor in my non elec start frame absolutely no way it would fit maybe would go the other way but would have to make front engine mount custom In my manual it shows the two different front section of the frame for elec and non.

So the only difference in frames is the front section and mine should have more room, a new mount should be no problem to knock up. Am I correct in thinking the main difference in cases is the provision for the elec start and the other outer dimensions remain the same? Does anybody know if my exhaust will be a direct swap onto the bigger cube engine? My FE has 6 gears, am I correct in thinking the FC has less due to it not being an enduro model?

some fc engines have a close ratio 6 speed (like mine) others have a 4speed you would have to ask the owner you are correct about the engine space however it's a little more involved as the fc engine has no conterbalancer and the fe has a counterbalancer so some parts in the engine simply do not interchange. i am unsure about the exhaust

Thanks again for the input, i still have some pondering to do on this one. Might suss out exactly what is needed for the 600 before I make any decisions. Any other info on this swap would still be great.
