overfilled oil symptoms?

So tresa and I stopped on the way back from gunnison and rode salt wash and sovereign singletracks in moab. My 05 550 had been running great in gunnison and ran great for 12-15 miles, but then sort of randomly started coughing and sputtering and died. I got it started again, and it spewed out a little smoke, and we rode back to the truck the fast way. It seemed to run fine all the way there, and was happy to idle again at the truck with no unusual symptoms. I haven't had time to look further, but was wondering if it might be overfilled oil. I changed the oil in camp saturday morning and it does appear to be overfilled. tresa said i was getting some diesel-y smoke whenever i really got on it hard. It seems slightly strange tho that i rode all day saturday w/o problems, and only experienced the issue sunday.

Hey Velo,

you must be well concerned about your Husaberg to post at 3:44 am. What the hell are you doing up at that hour ?

Did you refuel your bike sunday morning before you left? A short splutter like that sounds like a fuel issue, especially if you rode all day Saturday with no problems. It sounds like you've pulled some $hit through the carby or was empty when you refueled. Drop it in a creek Saturday?

Just my 2 bobs worth...

It was mid-day here in idaho, lol.

Fuel or dirt was my other main suspect, i was just trying to rule out easy stuff. The smoke I got when I got it started again got me to thinking tho. I plan to wash it tonight and take a closer look. Fortunately the carb is mega easy to remove on these bikes, so i can drain the float bowl and inspect, and look for signs of excess oil in the airbox, and also put in the right amount of oil.
