Hi there,

I'm considering to buy an FE400 2003, but I'm a bit confused since some guys talk about the e-start problem of this model. What do you think about this bike generally and specifically. Every opinion is very much appreciated.

where are you from?

they should be going cheap now because they are the last of the old bikes before they went to kokusan ignition and keihin carb. many good things were done to the '03 bike and in general they're quite mild.

it was the first model made in austria as opposed to the ancestral home of sweden. the build quality is good etc.

i'd say, nice green laning bike. 80% sorted, should be prepared to set the carb better than OEM and then you'll have a nice green laner for fun.

worth £1,500 in england in good nick and with mild use.

Hi Taffy,

I'm from Turkey/Istanbul. The owner is asking 4000 Euro, it's been used only 20 hours till now, plus Akropovic set on it. The price may sound high, but unfortunetly bikes are so expensive here. The new FE450 is about 8000 euro here.

So, I understand '03 bike doesn't have kokusan and keihin stuff which may cause small problems. Or I should definitly go for '04 or higher model.

Thanks a lot,

i wouldn't pay anything like that for it.

i would say that you need to have a word with our other turkish member. he will help you i'm sure. forgotten his name for a minute but i think it's mdrog?

the bike itself will be reliable and you'll like it. the next year was a great advance though.

many, many dealers in the world though have complained that there is no longer an entry level husey with 'soft' power.

Generally o3 models are very sound and reliable except for the sem ignitions that may last naywhere from 3 months to 3 years. I have had 2 fail on my 2003 fe501, which has otherwise been faultless and a great bike.

hi yigit,

i own this bike since 10/03 and i´am happy about it. ok, i put in the keihin. but with the dellorto starting with e-start or kickstart was never a problem, whether the engine was cold or hot.

Thanks for all your replies. One question left in my mind: Is it possible to change the e-start, or I should be prepared that stock one may not work sometimes, but I have the kick start then I shouldn't care

cheers

Hi Taffy, it's me "mdogruc" the other member from Turkey and I'll try to answer Yigit's question in english in order to let you all understand the conversation between us.

Hi yiğit, (merhaba birader :) )

First of all brand new Husaberg fe450 2005 is 6900 euro in Turkey. 4000 euro for 2003 fe400 is reasonable but a friend of mine who has fe400 has really trouble to start the bike even though it's valve adjustment is ok. If you can find 2004 or 2005 it'll be better for you.. but if you can manage to start the fe400 it's almost the same with fe450. Hope this helps

hi, I'm also from Istanbul/Turkey and bought one of these babes (2003/FE400) 3 weeks ago.. I couldn't have time to test the bike yet, but I started it a couple of times, with e-start or kick .. starts at first e-start and first or second kick..

Bike has 35 hours on it, slightly modified with an akrapovic on it.. bought for 4300 euros and yeah bikes ARE expensive in Turkey..

PS: makineyi alirsan PM at, husaberg kardesligi kuralim istanbul da :)

asmodeus

welcome to the site and good luck here. i hope you learn a lot, please join in fully, and teach us things you learn yourself.

i came to bodrum in october 2004 and met a girlfriend there. nice people, and very nice climate!!!

please take my word for it though, you will get a#bout 1-2 months electric start from a cold engine and then the sprague will pack up!

if you use the starter when the bike is warm though you may extend that to a year. i know your climate is warmer but it will only be a year at best! they all 'spin through' in the end.

Not sure how that works Taffy given that mine starts on estart and it has now been 2 years. Yes they have all been from a cold start.

Very nice to see here Turkish friends and all the others as well :)
I've got my answers, I'm gonna look for a newer one 2004-2005 if possible, otw I will buy the 2003 and train my self for a kick start in any situation.

Thanks a lot and and you soon,
