Talking to a fellow local to me who is selling his 2000 FE400 & was wondering what the feedback pro & con is on this year model?
The bike seems to be in good shape & has been well maintained & has a good street legal title which is a nice bonus but I want to gather some info before I possibly take the plunge.
I'd like to make it a stable mate with the '05 FC450 I just picked up if it's a reasonably sound year & model of Berg.Look forward to your replies.

Considered by many to be the most durable pre 2004 Berg made. Last year for the good motor, first year for the new frame.

Well that sounds good.I guess I need to give this one a good hard look.Any areas of concerns other the usual stuff one would look for with a used thumper?

usual things to look for with our bergs:

start at the tube valve at the front and everything inbetween to the tube valve on the rear! (LOL!!!).

i'm not an owner of that model but they seem to suffer the SEM troubles as usual and that's about it.

Hey vntgmx

I have a 2000 FE400E. I bought mine used several years ago and I have had no problem with mine what so ever. I change the oil and do maintenance per the manual and it runs great. I upgraded my headlight to a Baja Designs 80/80 watt halogen glass lens kit with no electrical issues. I installed a HUSA YTX9-BS battery and the bike starts on the button on the first try even in the winter. I also installed a set of Boss's alluminum radiator gaurds. Occassionally I can't get my hands on the higher octane fuel and I have to use 92 octane but the bike still runs as good as it does with the 103 octane fuel. If you have any other questions just ask away.

Well looks like I'm gonna have to get down to the nitty gritty & try to put the finishing touches on this one & make a deal as long as everything checks out when I go to look it over again.
I sorta faintly remember my dealer many moons ago speaking rather highly of the 2000ish FE400 & it seems to be what you all are confirming.

400 is alot of fun. its just right that you can cane it but your still in control of the bike not the other way round.
