Only runs with choke on? any hints

New leftover 2005 fs650e. Bike has all the stock jets/needles that came in carb. Bike is really hard to start, usually runs batt down. I'm familiar with the carb as i've had the on my ktm supermoto and other bike. Carb is clean, air passages clean, fresh gas, and fresh spark plug. Gets good spark. Bike has maybe 200 miles on it. When i get bike started, it will idle with the choke out. As soon as i push in choke, even after the bike has been running at a high idle for several minutes and everything is hot, it will cut right off as soon as I push in choke. I can ride bike with choke on and it drives fine, as soon as I push in choke it stalls out, even while in 1st gear at 10-15mph. The pilot screw is out 1/2 turn as the manual states.....has 160 main, obdvt needle, 38 idle jet... any ideas, want to get the starting and running with choke off fixed first before i start messing with other jetting...
thanks, damon

Plugged pilot jet, sounds like. Are you sure that jet has no restrictions? The circuit in the pilot jet is so small that it can be hard to tell.

RE: jet

You have EPA jets in your bike, and once you rejet it you will have more power etc. Check you manual for the Euro specs, ie OBEKR needle, 40something pilot etc. Once you get more fuel into that motor, she'll be making you smile.

ALso your pilot screw should be more like 1.5 turns out. Minimum .75

Hope this helps
