All,

I looked through the forum a bit but didn't see anything usefull other than the '05 Venting Posts...

I took my '05 fe 650 for its first long ride. I got in about 190 miles on day 1 no issues. Day two, we did about 30 mile on the beach, wide open in 6th followed by some reasonably fun riding through whoops sand washes etc. We about 20 miles of pavement in there at one stretch. Day two was about 215 miles. I did not dump the bike at all or get it up-side-down in a ditch.

After all of that on day two, I found oil leaking from the base of my oil filter down the frame. It's obviously coming up in to the intake from the valve train. I only lost 2 oz of oil, so it was not a significant loss.

Should I be looking for a root cause anywhere? Should I be looking at venting the overboard instead of through the intake? Or this this perfectly normal, get used to it?

BTW: I rode over 400 miles in Baja this weekend the bike was flawless. Fast and fun.

That is normal during extended high speed/rpm operation. You see it more frequently on the SM bikes since that is where they live.

Leaking source at the base of the oil filter?

Keep the oil level between 20-50% of the oil window. Oil level over 50% of the window tends to blow up the breathers, into the airbox/frame and back down into the carb with smokey results. Oil blowby leaking from around the breather tubes will typically run down around the engine.

Go to my gallery and check the right oil level.after that all will all right.
