have a 470 with later top end fitted and therefore no oil feed from the case up through the head to the rocker area. looking at the headgasket laying there all falorn like, i decided to snip a 2mm slit from the the pressure oil feed through to the area in the gasket for camchain to run up to the head and rocker cover. if you like, at a straight 90 degrees to the bike engine.

this means that the oil now squirts straight at the side of the camchain as it goes up. will we have a lack of oil at the top end now?

NO!!!! 8O 8O 8O

Taffy, I don't know which year rocker arms you are using, but if they were for a 03 pressure oiled top end, and you are now going splash oiling you might redrill the arms with splash oiling holes, like all but the 03's have.

Joe

What parts are different, excluding the rocker arms, on an 03 pressure feed system compared to all other model years?

well whatever happens the oilway is 100% blocked and as i could see with the only oilway from the cases truly blocked: even if the head and rockers could take the oil another way the cases aren't providing it up that route. as i can see the top end is splash feed.

the rockers are different to any i have personally dealt with. they are black and have waisted centres. the oil hole at the top is like a huge funnel. the rocker cover is squared off at the back and has the double breather system.

i'm quite chuffed with this, i know its going to work and the top end will get plenty of oil!

yeh cheers joe! somewhere i heard that they had or were going back to splash feed but please understand that i'm not sure of what this is except that i have the double breather on this babe.

as i say, snip snip in at sideways to the gasket and literally the oil will squirt straight at the side of the chain. i'm chuffed with this one.

I wonder if the pressure will be reduced to the rest of the system now. :-k

mmmm? i think it's important to keep it narrow and i would say mine is 2mm or less and with the gasket in compression perhaps even smaller still. but remind me what the resistance is anyway?

easy feed into the roc ker and then 1 tiny holes from the top of each rocker?

more to the point i think they make an excess of oil pressure. i agree you have to be careful though. think how many oilways are blocked by bonding agents and seals shoved in wrong?

what's the SP (starting price) on this "no oil feed to the head?" how long has this been going on?

regards

Taffy
