Oil level

Hi all
I have just got my bike back from a Valve check and the mech said I had too much oil in the bike. (2010 fe450) I have just drained the oil out completely and measured the oil back in as its only two rides old. The Manual says to check oil with bike cold and standing straight. I have put 1.25 lts in which is short of the 1.35 lts it should take and let it rest for a while. The sight glass is already showing over full nearly at the top.
Do I poor in the rest and ignore the sight glass ?
How should the oil level be checked ?

Cheers jon

1.35l is absolute max with oil filter removed.
So without it it will be less (I always change the filter aswell when I change oil).
I think I usualy get about max 1.30l of oil in there after tilting the bike upright left to right to get all the oil out:p
The oil should be checked with bike upright/level with cold engine if it's in the middle of the glas it's ok to max 1 cm from the top.
If it's less add a little more if it's closer than 1cm from the top the bike will blow most of the oil out of the breather hose in the airbox....
But never a good thing to have way to much in there;)
My bike does not use any oil so when I change the oil I never have to adjust the oil level chust check now and than it always stays the same:cool:

I hope no one minds is I wide track this discussion. I am having a miserably difficult time reading the site glass on my bike (2009 FE450). I have no problems when I am refilling it after the oil change but 1 ride later I can't tell if its empty or overfilled. With a slight countershaft sprocket leak I am constantly paranoid of running it dry and since I can't read the glass I worry of overfilling.

Any advise appreciate on the stupidest question of the day. FYI this is not my first bike I have owned.

Keep in mind there is a round glass and a long tall oval glass.

I keep mine 1/2 filled on the round glass. I normally only get 1150-1200ml of oil in.

If you overfill, it ends up in your air filter area, then down into your cylinder.

If you worry about long rides and oil use, one of those 50cc chainsaw oil containers you buy make a good small container for your favorite oil.
