I was removing my oil plug last night (counterclockwise) on my 1998 FC501 and it seemed "stuck", so I gave it a little extra elbow and it came out fine...but only after it broke the pencil-shaped oil screen that sits inside the drain bolt and extends into the case. Since this was my first oil change with this bike, I was suprised to see something there (never had a bike like this).
Long story short, the screen is STILL inside the engine, almost as if it's stuck into something on the left side of the bike (within the case).
Am I supposed to pull it out with needle nose pliars? Since it's broke, do I have to replace it before I start the engine, or is it ok to ride without it (since most bikes don't even have this added protection in the first place). Need advice from anyone who has changed their own oil. Thanks!
