Hi Sav,

Weather here on the Costa Blanca is a bit on the crappy side as well, the petrol that is coming from your carb is just coming out of the vent tubes nothing to worry about mine does this to.
I had the same problem with my filter bolt it had been nearly rounded so I managed to make a 12mm socket fit with a fair bit of tapping once on it came loose but was very tight.
The other way is to weld something on to the bolt head and get a purchase that way.
With the nut being mushroom shaped there is a lot of crossectional area touching when tightened up this is what makes it so tight, just a small nip is required.

Hey Sav,

Sorry to see you're having trouble with the screen bolt. I'm afraid that, yes, it is imperative that you clean the screen. Apparently someone has really overtightened this bolt, and I have heard of this happening before. For future reference, the oil drain bolt only requires 20nm of torque, and the filter screen bolt 15nm of torque.

A suggestion, try taking this bolt out when the engine is hot, you might have more luck that way.

As DaleEO suggested, warm the bike & try then. It worked a treat for me. I also ended up squirting the nut with contact cleaner as it evaporates very quickly & lowers the temp of the nut. Short sharp shock when undoing it, not a slow squeeze. Good Luck dude.

Try a 12 side socket to loosen nut, better contact on all surfaces of nut preventing damage. I remove the fuel tank when I do an oil change. Its only the seat and 2 bolts on the shroud. (fuel lines off) That works best for me. Also try a 1 litre clear squeeze sauce bottle with a tube attached to the end of it to put the oil back in.
