oil change, stator, etc.

I did the first oil change on my 02 fe501 today. I used the Rotella T synthetic 5w40 in a gallon jug. I filled the bike with oil till it reached about the middle of the sight glass and then started it and let it run for about 30 seconds. I let the bike sit for a few minutes and then checked the oil level. It is just at the bottom side of the sight glass when bike is level. In the illustration in the manual this is where it appears it is supposed to be. I was just wondering because on the other bikes I have owned the oil was always supposed to be right in the middle of the glass.

I also washed the bike and wanted to know about the stator. I read in the doc to put vaseline on the stator. I was wondering how much. Do you just pull the cover off and smear on a light coat or really goop it on. I also saw mention of drilling a hole, using wd40 and other things. I could really use some help in this area.

I asked previously in another post about the rocker arms and counter balancer, but did not have all information included. The bike is an 02fe501. I am not sure of the manufacture date but I would say it is probbably late in the model year. I found that when I installed the new rear spring the shock was like the 03 model not the 99-02. I was wondering if the rocker ams or counter balancer need attention or just wait till something happens? I noticed that in the doc it said (vital). Is there a way to find out date of manufacture and if so would this make a difference in which parts were used?

If there are any other items that should be addressed I would greatly appreciate the input.
