Oil change question

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum so hopefully i post this in the correct place.

I have a Husaberg 650 fe 2003 that i did a oil and filter service on today.

I got a little question. I drained the oil and replaced the oil filter, tipped the bike a little over to get all the oil out.
But when i filled new oil in i noticed that the oil whent all the way to the top of the oil screen, and i have read that it should just be at the bottom om the oil screen.
I filled 1litre of oil in the bike.

So my question is why did it go all the way to the top of the oil screen. Have i done something wrong.

Thanks for all replays

That would be 1 liter if the engine was dry. You cannot remove all of the old oil as some will remain in the crankshaft cavity and cling to all of the internal surfaces.

I would start it and then recheck. The filter cavity will consume some of the oil. I usually just fill it approximately half way up on the oil sight window.

I have never known that slightly overfilling will really hurt anything. It may smoke a bit for awhile as the crank cavity may overfill a little but excess oil will usually just be blown out the crankcase breather and then digested through the carb. A somewhat self regulating system.

The way I do it after oil drained and filter back in is to fill it just over half the glass. Run it for 20 seconds and shut it off. Its pretty much at the bottom of the glass cold then.

well buy a new one while you still can. not the answer you expected but surely the logical answer!

they will both do to drain the oil but you aren't seeing the screen for aluminium and silicon etc. if it looks ok as it comes out then maybe it's good but you'll never see and know about the day that it goes wrong until it is too late.
