Oil change - parts needed? '10 FX450

Hi,
Recently become an owner of a 2010 FX450 and the previous owner gave me a box of parts. I'm planning on doing an oil change. I have an oil filter, have oil screens, but my question is, do I need anything else (i.e. crush washer, o-rings, etc...)?

Reason I ask, is while looking at the manual under Changing Oil, it doesn't mention anything about new o-rings, crush washers.

There are 2 screens there are 2 bolts both 13mm 1 is the drain the other has the screen #2 screen it at head tube coming out of it I think it’s a 17mm. Unless damaged both O ring and copper washer can be reused. What I do is clean up the washer with a scotch cloth. easy also cleaned both screens with air and cleaner and reuse them. Be careful with both 13mm can be over tightened. if they are and your having problems. My fix is to use a 1/2” 6 point socket 1/4 drive tap it on with a hammer then use the longest ratchet tapping it with a hammer. Good luck

I use a stainless steel oil filter which is finer than the OEM ones. In filter replacement cost alone, it has paid for itself many times over. A great investment.

I also use a magnet inside the SS filter to be able to see what's in my oil and makes cleaning the filter an easier job too!

With the 17mm screen, I bleed that one after an oil change in case there's an air lock. Tip is to make sure you're bike is vertical (not on sidestand) when you do this.
 
Be VERY careful with stainless filters- they are good when they're good, if you know what I mean- BUT they can crack- stainless work hardens! Check carefully every change to see they are not disintegrating around the edge of the mesh as they can shed little bits of that mesh into the motor - and that stuff is hard!
There was a few different brands around, can't remember which type they were, but saw it on a WR and a KTM- maybe operator error as one of them looked like it had been squashed by not being lined up correctly when fitting oil filter cap.

For anyone who might want to know oil filter for 70* motors are 1mm different in length than the 650 Husaberg so can be use on any of those bike. 650 to 70* or vaisa versa

Yeah right! I've been using the on my Berg and 640 for about 10 years with no hint of them failing or breaking up. I wore out the rubber boot that interfaces to the oil line from removing it and reinstalling it with every change, but that's about it.

Actually I damaged one by accidentally wheeling my 640 over it! It was squashed at one end but still intact. Being that I was on the road and it was in one piece, I reinstalled it. I used it for some time before replacing it!!

The brand I used is Scotts. They're pretty durable compared to what you've seen but not up to the weight of a heavily laiden 640...
 
Hello! This is my first message in forum. I’m from finland. I change oil my fe390, and now i dont know how i must put back the upper oil screen filter in. Which way the screen filter must put back. The closed head in bluck or closed heah toward cylinder head? Excuse me my worse english. :)

I forget from when I did it once, but based on the big oil screen - the one on the underside of the engine (open end going towards the cap), I'd be willing to bet the open end of the screen goes towards the bolt (away from the cylinder).
