Odd decision - got a 'new' 2007 FE 550e

I just traded my 2000 FE501e, and got a left over 2007 FE 550e. Price was not really the determining factor over getting a new(er) FE570. I have looked at the new 70 degree bikes for a long time, great bikes. While there is no doubt that they are better in all (most?) ways, I still went for the older version!?. I just like the lighter look, and mechanical simplicity of the older bike - I guess it was "talking" to me in a way I could not resist - flame decals and all. My riding is mostly on trails in the high-desert areas around Reno/northern Nevada. Can't wait to try the 550! :D

Congratulations! I saw an 08 FE550 Friday and can't stop thinking about it. (And now I'm here) I like the simple layout, the chromo subframe, and want to have it.
Do they have a wide ratio transmission?

Not sure about the transmission ratio but from all I have read it will handle everything from 1st gear tight stuff to flat out speeds. My 2000 501 would cruze easily at 70 mph on the freeway and still climb the tight stuff in the mountains. I had it geared one tooth lower on the front sprocket. BTW. Just read a 2008 550 review - seems that this year is even more refined than earlier versions - mine included. Let me know what bike you are getting.

Yes on the wide ratio. Trans works well for everything.
There is no subframe.....thats all frame. Pretty stout stuff.
Hard to go wrong with one of those bikes.
